The one and only Flaming Pencil was getting some fresh air at Cosford today, doing a photoshoot for Octane magazine with a number of Bristol classic cars. What a wonderful morning I had, here's just a handful of shots. Enjoy!
Also it's absence from the Hangar meant there was more space for the other exhibits...
And one which I attempted a "ye olde" feel with...
Bristol 188 stretches her legs...
Re: Bristol 188 stretches her legs...
Peter,
What a great looking aeroplane, thanks for sharing the photos.
I am ashamed to say I've never heard of this aircraft, I shall do some research immediately
I really must get to Cosford, I always regretted not getting there before the airliners went, (gives himself a kick up the a****).
Cheers,
Jeff.

I know you think you understood what I said, but I'm not sure you realise that what I said is not what I meant.

Very nice indeed - looks like the SR-71! Shame about the backdrop though.
Surely there's money to be made from this sort of thing - wheel out a few rare exhibits onto the airfield with a clean backdrop, leave them out for a day and charge a bit extra for a day and/or night shoot.

I'd pay lots for a night shoot with some of the Cosford exhibits!

I have been aware of that aircraft for 49 years and I have never seen the likeness, till now! I wonder if Kelly Johnson did have a roving eye? It would be totaly un like the yanks to steal an idea from the Brits.

Exactly what I thought. Blackbird crossed with Starfighter

And created an aircraft that didn't do what it was intended to..... (we had better moments back then)

How are your rosed-tints specs then Dan? The Bristol 188 was another failed design so prevalent in the UK industry. It failed to reach any of goals set for it. I'm sure I read somewhere that the test pilot Godfrey Auty was awarded the "Most Likely to Eject " for 1963.
