J-10 - August 1st display team.

ILA Berlin perhaps but there's still one hell of a gap between Farnborough and Berlin.AMB wrote:boff180 wrote:It is a Farnborough year, taking into account major contract competitions that will be in full flow by this time next year and with other rumours from last year I will predict....

The rumours are quite strong as the Chinese want to promote the J-10. I have heard the "August 1st" aerobatic team will carry out a European tour (possibly with IL-76 support) taking in Paris, RIAT and Farnborough. Will not believe this til I see those J-10s on approach!
Wont hold my breath just yet though.

does the US demo teams going, mean that mean that the farnborough bound aircraft such as the F18 Super Hornet, F35 Lightning II and F22 Raptor aint coming now. As well as those we need some Russian aircraft at RIAT, so i wonder if there is any chance of a Tu95 Bear or a Tu160 coming over.
Fingers crossed for a B1b too.

Usual comments about Russian participation apply, ludicrously expensive to secure so probably not happening unless the goalposts have shifted in the last 6 months (seems unlikely).

The trip could be put down as a training exercise and wouldn't have to be from the display flight. One thing that makes me think perhaps not though, is that in '08 and '10 when the Raptor has been over to visit, they've been kept secretly hidden away in a hangar when they're not flying. Does anyone know if there have been static examples at stateside shows or do they just generally not let people get too close a look at them?

Not to mentioned UK and Russia relations are stilll..? strained because the Alexander Litvinenko saga 5 years ago. With talk of Alexander Litvinenko inquest in 2012 can't see Russia liking that too much
