Post by Screechy »

Thought i'd post a few pics from a trip out to Lulea in 2005 prior to the withdrawal of the Viggen from service. Hope you find them interesting.

Thanks, was a great trip. I'll add a small fact about the camo Viggen (55). It has a lightning flash on the tail because it was actually struck by lightning and since then it's apparently never been quite the same performance or maintenance-wise

Yeah the Viggen was a lovely beast, plenty of power but unfortunately it's another one of those classic aircraft that have been phased out and we'll probably never see in the air again.

Never say never. Well, you said "probably"...

The civil registration SE-DXN was reserved for Viggen 37098 a couple of days before christmas. In the link below you will see this mighty bird on a test run in december 2011 at F7 Såtenäs. Will probably fly soon.
Linköping June 3rd is a good bet if you would like to see a Viggen in the air again. Not a promise, but a good bet. SAAB is celebrating 75 years as aircraft manufacturer at the same time as Swedish military aviation is celebrating 100 years.

Yeah, looks like we certainly were. An amazing amount of snow came down that final day.. would have closed down a UK airport but not Lulea. Good times.

Absolutely brilliant thread. What a magnificent beast the Viggen was.

Delighted to hear that we may get one back in the air soon...

I’d missed this thread before – some nice shots of ‘57’ in action; now tucked up safely in Hangar 2 at Newark.

Before Christmas it nearly made it outside for a ‘TV filming job’ – but sadly it all fell through in the end; we even delayed putting up some new fencing to meet the filming requirements - it would have looked really good on the new hard-standing areas!!
