Mosquito GB - Mosquito Mk.IV ++FINISHED++

Mosquito GB - Mosquito Mk.IV ++FINISHED++

Postby Deacon on Mon 16 Jan 2012, 9:56 am

Well I said that I would enter this GB with a 1:72 Airfix kit.

Unfortunately I couldn't find it in the stash so I had to go out and buy this.

Image

Life's a bitch eh?

I'll probably finish this as a PR Mossie possibly based at RAF Benson.

Cheers

Alan

Looking forward to seeing your build Alan.
Is the 1/72 mosquito a scaled-down 1/48 kit?
I understand the 48th kit is superb although I've never built it.

Hi Alan
Welcome to the build! Another beautiful kit, to answer Mr Flibble I believe it is a scaled down version of the 1/48th therefore it is a very good kit. can't wait to see you add this to your growing collection.

OK guys just to show that I am actually progressing this build, here is a shot of what I have done so far.

Image

Not much I know, but it's a start.

The belts a provided as decals, but although accurate, there's just no 'depth' to them. I might try to use them as a
template, but then why make life difficult?

Hi Alan shes looking good and your all putting me to shame progress wise! I did the walkround I told you about and here is the link to my thread with the shots. To late for your cockpit (and a different layout to yours) But the undercarriage shots should help.

I better get going on mine or I will be the only one not done!

Looking forward to the next post.

Thank you sir.

Here is a shot with the fuselage together and the bombay doors added. I put some Klear in the cameras to give
the impression of the lenses.

Thanks Kenny.

The belts are lengths of Tamiya tape painted khaki. The navigator's seat has a double belt at the top half, one laid over the other.

Thanks and you're welcome.

Another update. Here is the undercarriage finished, although it needs cleaning up.

I drilled the holes in the guards as this was a feature missing from the kit.

Here she is, finished. My first UKAR build for 2012 and what a kit to start it with.

Image

Image

This kit was enjoyable from beginning to end and I realised half way through the build that it is my first ever Tamiya kit.

The fit of the parts was that good, that it was almost boring! I'd just completed the Airfix Stirling and had fought with various fit issues, this
kit was just bliss.

Tamiya do two other models of the Mossie in this scale allowing you to make at least 6 different variants. Although I may not do any more for this GB, I am
sorely tempted to get more.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work Alan   I didn't realise you were doing the PR scheme, it certainly looks good. Tamiya kits are class and it shows.
