Is FRIAT worth it?

Is FRIAT worth it?

Postby G-CVIX on Fri 24 Feb 2012, 7:21 pm

6th RIAT, still deciding on whether to go for FRIAT or not. Was just looking to get some views on whether or not it's worth the money? I have my Kempsford booked and I'm there all week regardless. I'd love to do it but is the £200 for mach 3 worth it? Also, are any of the lesser packages any real improvement on basic tickets and sitting at the end of the runway on arrivals and departures? Thanks in advance.

If you're down for arrivals-departures then FRIAT is definitely the way to go IMO. It may not be that much cheaper than buying the individual components (P&V, Show tickets, programme etc) but there are also the other benefits like walking the static on Friday, the FRIAT grandstand, left luggage (which can be a life saver). Plus there's the people, you're always guaranteed to bump into someone you know.

Andrew, who just bought his Mach 3 5mins ago.

Mach 3 is worth it, with the addition of the Thursday night static walk, well its unbeatable!

At most, if you purchased everything at SuperEarlyBird prices for 2012 (Prior to 1st January 2012), Mach III would cost you £9 more.

At best, if you don't buy anything until it is full price for 2012 (1st April), Mach III costs you £11 less!

And that is not taking account of all the other parts of the FRIAT package that you can't buy seperately!

I've done a quick comparison cost chart to help people see the value for money and make their own minds up...

What's the Thursday night walk like Andy? Wasn't down last year so that's a new one for me? I assume it leaves from FRIAT or can they collect people from the P&Vs?

I couldn't go on the walk last year due to other commitments but from all reports it was very good.

You depart from the FRIAT enclosure only (so you must be in there if you intend to go) and then head west as far as you are allowed (last year there were still moving aircraft) then turn around and head east. The walk then ended at the P&V East Car Park where the members that took part got in their cars and left for the day.

I did hear that alot of the aircraft did not have the cones/ropes in place but did also hear that you were expected to keep moving, there was no stopping to film every single nut and bolt on each aircraft.

If you have the cash then MACH 3 in my opinion is the way to go for sure.

I haven't been able to do this show for a while now but, objectively, it seems like a helluva good deal - if you have the cash, as somebody else observed. I hope it's a great show for all concerned - from the look of the so-far announced line-up it is shaping up well.

Very close to doing mach 3. Does anyone know roughly if/when mach 3 sells out?

I did mach 2 for the first time last year and was really impressed by not just the value for money but the whole experience, so this year I opted to go for the mach 3  . What I would say about when they generally sell out , I would order one ASAP to avoid disappointment and avoid having to wait another year to find out what all the fuss is about.

Call me stupid - but does MACH3 ever sell out? I know that 1 and 2 are gone pretty quickly, but I've never heard of 3 doing so. It's just that I won't get paid for my first month of summer work in the uni holidays until the end of June...

Yeah I'm fairly certain they were still available pretty close to the show last year. Me too, gotta wait for money to come in!

Another example of the enthusiast being listened to.

A few of us suggested it on te friat forum, and they've delivered.
