Low Level BA 747

Earlier today I spotted a BA 747 at about 2500-3000ft. Does any one have any ideas why it would have been so low or did any one else see it?
I was working about 15 miles north east of Bristol near Chipping Sodbury and the 747 was heading west.

Possibly an aircraft on test from Cardiff

Yep there was one in and one out today. (source: South Wales Aviation Group)

Seen one really low (2000ft tops) from Cheltenham Racecourse one sunny day in November 2010. I too wondered why, Cardiff seemed a logical answer.
