Joint Warrior inside and out..

Post by Macc »

Well on the Wednesday, RAF Lossiemouth laid on an enthusiasts day that will remain in my memory for a long time. Excellent access to all the visiting aircraft and then a chance to capture some of the locals too! Can't fault the day at all, as it was absolutely brilliant!

It was great to catch up with so many people and meet plenty more too! Without my Dad, Niall and Graeme I wouldn't have caught any of this so thanks for the lifts! Also, thanks to everyone for the great banter! What a superb day.

First up, a trip to the 3 US Navy P-3Cs and Canadian CP-140.

It was nice to catch a quick line shot of XV(R)sqn.

Then it was off to see the Atlantique on VASS.

Then a visit to the gate guard.

After lunch, the weather had gone very stormy and it was off to the P-8A. Enjoyed a lovely chat with some of the very enthusiastic crew members!

Then it was off to the 617sqn complex where two HH-60Gs of 56RQS at RAF Lakenheath were at.

The final part of the tour was off to runway 28 where we would catch some departures from 12(B)sqn.

It was then outside the fence, and the arrival of another HH-60G and the departure of the other two as Jolly 41 flight.

Then after deciding it was time for home, me and Graeme were told that one of the P-3s was starting and decided to stay on a bit, we were rewarded with a Canadian and an American departing and also an American arriving and performing four circuits, all in fantastic light!

Well Chris I have to say that this is by far the best set I've seen submitted from you and that takes some doing from your past excellent threads.

Everyone is pin sharp yet you still manage to capture the exact sense of movement on the action ones and with fantastic colour saturation throughout, the only thing that is missing is the smell of JP8 . You are very much setting the bar on here that others should inspire to

I don't think I've ever used this icon before :worship:

Yes nice set of photo's. Also would have been nice to say a big thank you to the organisers and the service personnel who had to escort you around the camp areas!

Hi Arthur,

I realise I forgot to mention them in this post. However, I did create a post on FC to highlight my thanks to the team as soon as I got home that night: http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/v ... 74&t=56322

But it's good to see you encouraging people to thank them!

Thanks Macc. I know how it feels from being on the SAR flight at Lossie in the mid nineties and often getting dicked to look after visitors. You get p****d of with those that seem to think they have a right to visits (worst culprits-Air Cadets) but are happy with those that say thank you often followed up with a letter.

Another fantastic set from Joint Warrior, one thing that fascinates me though is the 360 prop blur you and many others get as in picture No30.Judging by the starbursts you must be on f16/22 aperture - - - therefore the question is ,what shutter speed ? Hope you don't mind me asking

Colin,

The shutter speed is 1/60, the threshold for 360 degree discs on a P-3/CP-140. I used ISO 100 so the aperture was f/8-14.
