Flying Legends 2012

Girls, Girls, calm down now :hide: . Lets get this straight. It's clear that Legends isn't everyone's cup of tea but for the life of me I can't see why. Ok the debate over the photgraphic merits of Duxford will split the forum down the middle it seems but can we not agree on one thing? Legends provides the best chance of seeing and hearing, never mind photographing, the largest number of "Warbirds" at one airshow in the UK, maybe Europe or even the world. As such it is to be welcomed in my eyes and ears, as it truely is an aural experience as well. Mr Grey, so far as I can gather, organises the show and invites who he wants to. There are probably reasons why those that do not appear at Legends do not appear but that is an issue between those that organise the show and those that choose to, or not to, appear. For me, time off in the Summer is a precious thing (my choice of business and my problem) and I choose to spend it at Legends and RIAT and as many other shows as I can in the time allowed.
If you don't enjoy it, don't go. If you do, don't whinge about it, just don't go this year and we'll all have a bit more space on the crowdline to enjoy it.

You are free to comment and have an opinion but who they allow in as press is the IWM / TFC's decision, if you don't like it then you can complain of course but comments on an internet forum are ill-advised, as you did within your review. I am sure criticism is well received as long as it is constructive but in an inflated financial climate the price will continue to rise, especially as visitor numbers for the show are on the up as this will push sales for them up.

Where in the review is this mentioned?

LN,

Ok so not attached to your review but I knew I had seen it on your site discussion about Duxford:

This is indeed true. Though quite who is deemed worthy of a "press" pass is still something of a grey area it seems. But that's a debate for another day.

Dan,

Why confused, two separate issues.

Why shouldn't we question who gets and who doesn't get press passes? And what's it to you if we do?

That's a comment made by DanO in the post-show discussion on the forums. Nothing to do the with UKAR review.

Dan,

Because it is a decision made by the IWM and TFC, there show and as result their airfield their rules. As I said make a complaint direct to them about it if you have an issue, I am sure they would act upon it if the reason was valid but don't whine on a public forum, you never know who is looking in do you?

LN,

Apologise, He does have 'UKAR staff' located under his avatar hence my confusion.

Erm, we actually hope they ARE looking in. Not sure you've quite grasped the nettle here. UKAR is a forum to discuss and criticise/praise where applicable. Representatives of most, if not all, major shows, teams, operators read our forums.

I'm sure they look in and do read, I'm sure some are even members on here, especially pilots. I was more suggesting those who you deem not 'worthy' enough to gain press access when you mentioned it being a 'grey area'.

Over the past few years this forum and others have been rife with rumors wish list's and potential participants which all add to build up the anticipated exitment for Legends. They may not be factual or even correct but sitting watching the rain come down in buckets for the 40th day in a row one can only be exited by any prospected participants now matter how fanciful they maybe

As for facts you could say the BBMF website have confirmed participation as has Sally B, presumably we shall see Snafu, the Corsair, spitfires, a couple of Curtis’s, hawk, or Hind, P51 and a Sea Fury from the TFC. Possibly a couple of other Spits from resident operators at DX and a Hurricane, P51 so the makings of a display list of sorts.

For rumours could this be the year that we see a flying FW190 again and even a Me262 !!!!!

Yes, I know, you are quite right and lots of members enjoy all the speculation. I prefer not have my spirits raised and perhaps dashed, but rather get excited slowly as and when aircraft are announced. Good luck with your dreams!!

I can imagine we will see the Legends regulars form TFC, ARCo, HAC and OFMC, but what I do want to see is more from Meier Motors and the Air fighter Academy over in Germany. There are some P-51s, Spitfires that I would like to see debut and of course the Black F4U Corsair. I see that BBMF, Dakota Norways's DC3 and Sally B are listed to appear on their respected websites. Hopefully the Catalina can appear this year after a few years absence!

That's really good news as well as the fact that other appearances at Duxford are on the list and especially good to see the Septermber date for the Swordfish for the 70th Anniversary Dedication of the Operation Fuller Memorial at Dover.
