Twas the summer of 89 . PART 1.

Postby Keefy041 on Tue 24 Apr 2012, 5:57 pm

I know its been done before, but i thought i'd post some of my own pictures of the Memphis Belle filming.
Some friends and i went down to Duxford several times over a short period and were treated to some scene's that we'll probably never see again in this country.
Naturally the only time that they got 5 B-17's up together whilst we were there was after the museum closed.
Not that it stopped us. Bit of leg work , and it paid off.
The sight of seeing all 5 taxi out and take off with the B-25 camera ship was a remarkable sight, as was the run and break by 3 in formation on return .
They are not the best, but i hope they are of interest.
I'll start with the Forts...

Brilliant! You were lucky to catch them in the air - what a sight that must have been!

I went along to Duxford when there were only four B-17s present and they were putting the finishing touches to the paintwork. Although not a lot was going on, seeing that many B-17 at once, plus all the Buchons and Mustangs was something I wouldn't have missed for anything.
The past is a foreign country: they fly different aeroplanes there.

Thankyou for the comments everyone.
Having 3 B-17's roar low over your head for a run and break whilst standing on the grass bank at the motorway end of Duxford's runway after closing was certainly special.
Will post some more soon.
