Hello Mike,

Ater 45 years I am not 100% sure now, so I am trying to investigate and even sent NASA a query about this # 56-6671. Will keep you posted of course if this was a mock-up (plastic, wood) yes or no.

I took pictures of this one because I liked this example, and because I had a 1:48 scale model of the X-15, like this one: http://www.donsmodelworks.com/cmprods/i ... m48029.jpg , so a great opportunity to see one.

I'd say the X-15 is a mock up because it looks a little too clean, you can't see any rivets or panel lines.

If you compare it with this image on NASA's website you can see what I mean.
http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/gallery/photo/X-15/Medium/EC65-900.jpg

Nice to see it though Rob, I don't know of many people who have taken a picture of an X-15 real or otherwise

No, that's what I was thinking too. But I would have thought it was a mock-up simply because it seems unlikely that the "real thing" would be shipped to Europe just for PR purposes and I notice it says " AIR FORCE EXHIBIT" on the side and the rocket eflux looks too smooth and clean. But it's still good to see the picture along with some other treats posted as well!

I believe the X-15 mock-up that you saw is now in the museum at Pima.

If this is the real deal it is the second X15 and was modified after a crash to become the X15A-2 that was used only 4 months after this picture was taken to set an new speed record of Mach 6.7 on Oct 3 1967
