DACT Canarias 2012

Postby BatmanIX on Wed 25 Apr 2012, 10:21 pm

Hi all,

Below are a few images from a visit to Gando Air Base, Gran Canaria last week where the Spanish Air Force held a Dissimilar Air Combat Training Exercise. Sadly no Mirage F1's were present for the exercise whilst we were there.

Great stuff, can never tire of looking at EdlA aircraft. Take it you didn't get any troubles from the local or mil police, I think they are pretty lenient nowadays at Gando as long as you stay on the hill.

Cracking pictures!

Can anyone tell me what the little black X on a white square is on the tail of most Spanish aircraft is/means? Plus, is it just an air force thing? I notice it isn't on the navy harriers?

It's the standard fin flash for the Spanish Military, stems from the days of the Spanish Civil War when Nationalist forces led by General Franco used the markings on there a/c. I think none of the Armada a/c use it, although the Army do.

Nice swan Paulie, looked like a trip with plenty of variety, intrigued how the CASA 101 managed to fly that far!
Do you want the Aladeen news or the Aladeen news?

Excellent set, F27M is still interesting although shame they no longer have the gloss white/grey scheme.

Bit like the Fleet Air Arm don't carry the fin flash that the RAF aircraft do.

Lovely shots - you forget how capable an Air Arm Spain have until you see that - Typhoon. F-18 and Harrier (as well as the Mirage F1s)

No problems with base security at all.
Casa 101's may have had to fuel stop in Morrocco Tony?

Many thanks for the comments,

Superb set!
Spanish government astute enough to realise the need to keep their Harriers flying  .............................
