I've had to visit a number of airport fire services around the country as part of my previous day job. Once visited the fire section at Southampton Airport and watched a fire crew, who were down from Heathrow for training, put out a fire on the high pressure training rig. Very impressive. My hat goes off to anyone doing that job, volunteer or otherwise.
Thanks Darren.
four days later the trainers did their revalidation & I lit the fire for them to respond to, looking at the video of their Fire, which was exactly the same fire as shown here on this video, we didn't do too bad, they were better but the timings were 10 seconds in their favour.
They both told us that they would be more than happy to knock down fires shoulder to shoulder with us as they trust us & have seen that we have learnt & come a long way since starting 9 months ago.
we also did casualty evacuation from a real aircraft that morning after doing a trauma course a month before & we did it within the time limit allowed.
The casualty was a live person trapped in the aircraft complaining of neck pain, we put a collar on him then a KED then got him out onto a rescue board & away from the aircraft having made the aircraft safe first.
Proud we are, there are four volunteers & two full time fire & rescue persons at Sandtoft & the volunteers are all pilots who fly at Sandtoft.
We take pride in our work & i do Volunteer duty every other Sunday. I have been out on five emergency call outs so far all ended without incident & one being an aircraft that had engine failure on take off & landed in a field off the end of the runway.
when we have fly in's or aerobatic days all six of us are on duty around the airfield ready to respond.
Thanks for the interest in the video.
Cheers Trev
