Current rumours mention Korean Airlines (KAL) cargo 747's, other rumours have 2 x AN124 bringing the jets. The airports mentioned include Farnborough, Fairford, a Belgian Lockheed Martin facility (?), Cambridge, Lakenheath and others. Farnborough and Fairford would in my view be ruled out, they will have enough going on without a full 10 jet rebuild going on and losing that amount of hangar space prior to major airshows.

The criteria for this adventure would be an airport that can take very large transports, has good maintenance facilities including hangar space for 10 Jets. An airport that deals with fast military jet fighters, inparticular test flying of the re-assembeled jets.

To be honest I think there is a plan, it is awfully complicated and no firm decisions have been made yet.

Brize Norton has not been mentioned in any conversations I have had.....that means it is a racing cert! My view on the Brize rumour is unlikely. Brize can handle the transports, but hangar space maybe an issue and the test flying of the jets maybe deemed a risk at the RAF's main transport hub...

10 re- assembeled jets

I think from memory the Belgian FM facility is at Charleroi airport (the one Ryanain flies into for Brussels). Not sure of runway length if that is correct.

There is talk of a basic Belgian (or Dutch?) To accommodate the Koreans .... F.16 base would be needed ?? ...
This is a rumor in Belgium since we're talking about the arrival of the Koreans in Europe.

I don't think that's a bad shout at all. Repairs are currently being carried out on Scampton's runway while the Reds are away too.

The latest NOTAM for Scampton doesn't sound that encouraging especially with the reds back in a couple of weeks

Start date/time: 30/04/2012 12:15 UTC
End date/time: 31/08/2012 23:59 UTC
Activity period: null
Lower height limit: 000
Upper height limit: 999

DUE TO DETERIORATING RWY SFC PRACTICE DIVERSIONS ARE RESTRICTED TO
LOW APPROACHES ONLY. VISITORS ARE STRICTLY 24HR PPR AND MUST BE
BRIEFED ON THE STATE OF THE RWY PRIOR TO ARRIVAL

Guess we will see how bad the runway is when the Red's stuff is transpoted back. I'm guessing in Danish C-130 this year anyone else want to have a guess

There are several empty HASes at St. Mawgan -sorry, Newquay Cornwall Airport. Culdrose has some empty hangars as well but getting an An-124 or 747 in there would be VERY entertaining :hide: . They would be unloading in the car park of the cottage hospital on the other side of the road...

Assuming it is likely to be somewhere in the south (for shorter transits) what about Yeovilton? Or Hurn? Or St. Athan?

It would never have been Woodford, the place has been effectively shut for quite a while.

I believe that six T-50's have been delivered so far, test flights can't be far away now.

The final 'inbound' Korean freighter is due in Manchester tomorrow (Friday).

All their T-50s should then be in the UK.

My 'man in Korea' has just advised me that the Black Eagles will transit from Leeming to Fairford on the Monday before the show. Rehearsals wil then be carried out between Monday-Thursday, weather permitting, with no flying planned for Friday.

AMB mumbled:

That seems to contradict a recent post on the Early Arrivals thread that states the only arrivals before RIAT takes control of the airfield on Wednesday will be the Colombians and a B-52...

Furthermore, the Korean team is displaying at Waddington over the previous weekend and it seems a bit daft to return to Leeming and then head back south to Fairford on the Monday. Can't help but wonder if the "man in Korea" misunderstood the question or if something got lost in translation.
