Hi there,

I am getting the train from manchester Piccadilly to Sunderland for the show on the saturday , Just wondering
is there going to be an airshow bus running from sunderland town centre to seaburn for the airshow ?
My train gets in at 1130 so will it still be running then ? Any info would be appreciated

You could try the metro. Will probably be heaving but its only a few stops I think. There are definatley buses running I just can't remember where they run from. Closer to the time the regional news run stuff on it so will be able to tell you more then. Hope this helps.

More stuff has been added Miss Demanour, Catalina, Sbach 300, P-51D and according to the RNHF Sea Fury and Swordfish are tbc. The night show is also being planned.

Hi there, for anyone attending via public transport your best bet is to get the metro to Park Lane Interchange in Sunderland. Most of the roads for about a 3 mile radius of the sea front are closed off except for airshow buses and obviously residents and airshow vehicles so it takes about 15 mins form Park Lane.

There are hundreds of buses, the fair is something like £2 return for the day. If you get off the metro at Seaburn itself you can take 10 mins just to get from the platform to street level and if you have any equipment you'll have numpties clattering into you all the way down to the seafront which is a good 10 - 15 min walk when the streets are so full.

For those driving, there are usually 3 or 4 park and ride areas outside of Seaburn, all are well signposted but being a pedestrian I'm not 100 percent sure of the cost.

I've been going for years and it seems to have only been problematic if you drive a car, but in saying that friends of mine who have driven there in recent years have been pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the park and ride.

If you can, say if you have any friends/relatives locally or can find a great hotel deal I recommend coming on the Friday as the evening airshwow and fireworks display is nothing short of spectacular.

They have two official carparks with shuttle bus service. Cost £5.50 last year. They are listed on the website.

I've used the nearest one to the seafront 2 years running, the shuttle bus works well and is free but since we were basically told to turn up before the flying had finished I only used it one way and opted to walk back. It's only a 20 min stroll. Google maps link. If you use the other carpark then it's a bit far for walking.

Jon, apart from a swap round of the times the tucano and the king air displayed, that was spot on, so once again, thanks for that. Had a good day at Newcastle, with plenty of airliners to photograph in between. Lovely weather and nice to get out photographing planes again.

No problem. Had a good day yesterday at the sea front catalina and mustang formation was a nice treat. Display line again as usual a good way out so photography was tricky unless you have a mega lens.

Jon38, where's the best location for spottin at Newcastle? End of the runway (070) used to be accessible and hassle free when I was last there (2003 ish)

Had a great day yesterday really enjoyed myself,

Highlights for me were the eurofighter, and the best mustang display
I have seen even beating southport last year, some very close
passes to the crowd and it was flown with great verve. Also
great to see the pass with the catalina. The hunter display was excellent
aswell seemed to be flown closer to the crowd than last year with many blue notes. That was the thing about the airshow some displays were closer than others the tucano and king air were flown further out to sea and the furthest out were the bbmf, so much further out than when they were at folkestone, in fact the bbmf were the most distant i have seen them I could barely here the spitfire and hurricane when they were displaying only really heard the Lancaster which even though was further away was still awesome to see as always, still love the rear crowd arrival the bbmf do. So all in all well worth travelling from the northwest and the great weather was a bonus will definately be back next year.

To be fair, I did enjoy the day

Loved the pyros for the role demo, nice to see a Tonka as I've not seen one for a while, bit distant though. P51 was lovely, would have been nice to just listen to it without the music. BBMF, waaay too far away! Tiffie, nice display, V loud, could have been closer. Reds, spot on as ever, even with only seven jets... so tight!

And I won a Lightning Mcqueen and ate lots of ice cream yay!

It was a good show, well worth the couple of hours drive up.

I went on the Sunday so missed the BBMF and Falcons due to the wind but seeing all 9 Reds more than made up for it.

The Tornado pyro display was fantastic, couldn't believe how close people on the beach were to it.

Black Cats put on a brilliant display as ever.

Loved the Mustang and Catalina flypast.

Some of the display can get a bit far away but if you are there primarily to watch it isn't a problem.

Got there early as I'd heard some of the park and ride wasn't available, parked at Fulwell Quarry with no problem, took the bus in and did my usual walk back rather than join the queue around the block for the bus. Checked Google Maps for the clearest run out and was home in time for tea.
