Hand Held @ Northolt - 09May12
I was going to go back to using a tripod with long exposures for this night shoot but with the Met office forecasting torrential rain (Ha,ha,ha) all evening, I decide to go hand held with multi frame high ISO noise reduction as it would be easier to help keep the camera/lens dry and move around in the naff weather. For the couple of times there was a passing shower, Hangar 4 was open as a shelter but as the rain was coming from the south, the hangars themselves acted as a rain break.Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and many thanks to Phil, Lee and everyone else, including the visiting squadron personnel, at Northolt.

A Room With A View.......from the third floor of the hotel. The tube trains, being electric, are quite quiet but the main line diesels made the most noise. Fortunately they don't run all night.

Like the shot of everyone sheltering in the hangar. Still can't get used to the fact you can actually hand hold a camera at 1/30 second and get decent photos.

Love your set Brian! How do you manage to hand hold at such a slow shutter speed?
Cheers Phil

I get plenty practice at Duxford. Now this is a slow shutter speed.

Exif info should still be attached.

Most impressive. Hmm ... tripods becoming obsolete?
Great set.

Great stuff! Especially handheld! It was good to meet you on Wednesday and put a face to the name - it was me with the 70-400 that had a chat with you about Sony kit!
Re: Hand Held @ Northolt - 09May12
you need to get a biz-jet or 146 in the train shot, just to show how flippin low they come over the hotel. Great skill on the hand held shot.

I sat listening for one unfortunately a diesel train passed by as a biz jet came in to land and I missed it. I've been on the platform and watched them virtually bounce the wheels off the hotel roof and straight over the top of the station. Scary when you see it first time. You can just see the top of 32 Sqn hangar to the left of centre, the grey strip between the house roof and horizon

In the viewfinder at the bottom right there are 4 graduated bars of the Steady Shot system. Press shutter button part way down for auto focus, Intake of breath and hold and when the bars drop down to 2 or one, gently press shutter button all the way and wait till the High ISO noise reduction function takes the six rapid shots and then breath again. Simples

Nice selection Brian considering the high Iso and hanfd held.
As for the trains it was interesting see the flashes of light from the late Night underground in the wet and dark from Northolt.
Not something you see everyday around the country
