I think they made it up themselves, but my son is involved with air-soft over near Mildenhall and the Americans that come often bring bottles of this stuff to the events,

http://jackdanielsbbqsauces.com/

Its from the base, and made in America, (At least the bottles off the base are) It's real close to how I remember the original sauce! you can get it here if you google it!

I'll see if I have the website/order form still at home from the UK store/importer i got it from. I looked ages for it in the supermarkets, none stock it.

Perhaps Waitrose do now?

The JD Sauces were brought over to the UK for TGI's originally. Nearly all supermarkets stock it.

It wont be the same, how anyone can remember what a bbq sauce tasted like from 20 years ago I dont know ! , I,m sure each stand had it's own home made sauce, I distinctly remember on several occasions seeing the guys manning the stands tip a can of bud into the sauce to loosen it up as it had been simmering for hours and got rather "Tar" like, I attended most of the Mildenhall Airshows, The BBQ sauce was unique to the shows, much as the airshows themselves, never to repeated sadly.

I simply asked for some. Assuming I'd pimp a bottle, in the end I bartered for a cannister. Although a 5 litre Hunts in a can was somewhat more than one might desire!

Don't ask and you don't get.

Remember the show in the 80's (was it 1984?) with the Thunderbirds. It was so hot they were selling 1 litre containers of ice cream to drink.

According to a friend, the bbq sauce used on the burgers at the Air Fete was called "House of Lords BBQ Sauce".

I'm in Florida in July (go the day after Fairford departures day) and usually bring sauces back. I'll probably get 5 bottles for $1 each in Walmart and let you know how it tastes!

You can still get "Wet Burgers" at the Fairford arrivals days in P&V east, they taste exactly the same as I remember from Mildenhall days.

They sell mountain dew as well, not sure about Bud's and Schlitz though as I usually drive.

Are we honestly saying that Bud and Schlitz are something to write home about?!!!!! They are shocking for taste, but Bud is 5% so contrary to popular believe it is NOT weak p*** that everyone seems to harp on about.

If i remember rightly there were two Buds you could buy pre mid 90's. One's imported into the UK c/o USAF were made from "best barley, malt hops and rice" ( which gave it a smoother taste) compared to the UK import from Euroland, "best barley, malt and Hops." A sharper taste? I also remember being on some of the usaf bases as a kid and the first stay-on ring pull was on a bud compared to the uk rings pulls back then which were peel and throw away! We also had leaded fuel back then when the US introduced it , best guess 15 years before us.

And, it seems there may not be a Single BBQ used then.

While on this rather sad subject does anyone like that HP Guinness sauce? I hate it, went straight in the bin - a bit of a gimmick if you ask me.
