BA's 'The Firefly' - Olympic Airbus #2

Post by RRconway »

Morning,

As I type, G-EUPC, 'The Firefly' is getting ready to depart to Greece to collect the Olympic flame. It is the second British Airways A319 to wear a special Livery for the 2012 London Olympics, and is slightly different to the first one!!!!

I was granted permission to get these pictures just after they finished the paint scheme and just before they wrapped it up in brown paper, (seriously) to be able to move it from the paint bay to another hangar to await today’s historic flight.

I hope you like the pictures.

Superb pictures and the livery is definitely a major improvement over the Dove one

Much nicer!

Can we look forward to some disappointing air-to-airs to go with this one too then?

I'm not bowled over by it, but it is far more striking than the Dove livery.

Excellent shots though. :heyhey:

Very striking - presumably the colour scheme is meant to 'reflect' the colours of the olympic flame.

I think I am in the minoirty - but I LOVE the dove scheme - it is supremely elegant in my eyes - and I definitely prefer it to the Firefly.

Well it could hardly be worse than the dove.

Very meh. Looks like it's had a mid-air with an Easyjet and they haven't cleaned up the mess.

Gorgeous - great pics, lovely scheme would have looked even better on a B744 or B773 so as to give the special liveried Etihad planes a run for their money!

I'm not sure about it!

The front end looks very nice but then when you see a photo of the whole aircraft the rear end 'clashes' with the front in my opinion. Perhaps if the tail logo had been painted into the yellow scheme it might appeal to me more!

Anything would be an improvement on the "Dove". Very nice scheme. Just have to hope they integrate the old Bmi A319s into the entire BA fleet following the merger so I've a chance to photograph it.

Wandered over to see it on 525 this morning before it departed to Athens, a massive improvement on the Dove. This one will also be doing part of the torch tour of the uk.

Keep hearing rumours of more Dove's, but with a standard BA tail and the dove in grey. Possibly some of the BMI A319's will be dove'd.
Cheers

I really don't understand what's so nice about this paint scheme. I mean it looks like the pilot's vomited yellow bile because it's hideous. The Dove scheme was no better and it neatly befit's the tragedy of the Olympic logo branding disaster... BA, you really have followed the wrong sheep!

Talking of sheep, the Dove scheme looks more like a sheep too!

first time I've seen this special, prefer it to the white/gold 'dove' scheme.
