The Zwartkop Airshow 2012, Pretoria, South Africa

Post by bushman »

The annual Zwartkop Airshow seems to be the highlight of every airshow year in South Africa. This year we were treated to some rare and special fly-pasts. A big feature was the T-2 Buckeye which was brought into the country by Ron Wheeldon and was flown by veteran fast-jet pilot Glen Warden.

It was a huge success with very large crowd again.

The Hawk looks cool with a chute. Is the Buckeye a fairly new arrival in SA?

Yes. She arrived last year, and was assembled at Cape Town International Airport. We were all hoping to catch her when she took to the skies for the first time, but they waited until we were all at last year's Ysterplaat airshow, and flew her out while everyone was looking the other way.

She is based at Outshoorn Airport, where she apparently flies with a Chinese flight school. The details around this operation are very sketchy at this stage.

great stuff Bushman  That Rooivalk looks suitably ugly for a helicopter! Would love to see that Buckeye, may have to get in contact with my cousin in SA and arrange a stay...

Fantastic set! I love the panning shot of the Gripen. And how sexy is that Impala? I really do like that aircraft (and the MB326, and the Xavante).
