F102As at RAF Leuchars 40 years ago.

Post by F102A »

2 57th F.I.S. Delta Daggers diverted into RAF Leuchars from Iceland during the airshow in 1973 I believe. I only had 2 shots left in my camera. Fortuneately I had a pass to get out to them. Comments welcome.

******* **** !!! You don't see many photos of these  Didn't realise just how large an a/c the '102' was, until you see the crew member standing on the wing, although I think he is slightly on the small side.

Excellent pictures

I believe these were there for the B.O.B. airshow in September 1972, so was I, and saw them arrive almost overhead from the vantage point of the then new Married Quarters to the North of the station.

Fantastic scans of a fantastic aeroplane. They honestly look like they were taken yesterday. 57th FIS F-102s used to often divert into Lossie as well.

We saw them arrive as well as drove to the show from our home in Newburgh. Pretty exciting stuff especially when you're 9 years old.

Lovely scans! Was lucky enough to see the pair of them. I have them logged for 16th Sep 72. Also saw a pair of 57th FIS TF102's a month or so earlier at Leuchars.

57FIS F102's also visited Upper Heyford. I saw 2 pairs there in early'68. Don't know if they were diversions but on one occasion , while I was walking along Camp Road, they dragged one out of a hangar and towed it to the North side where the other one was parked - on that day there was no room on the Base Ops ramp to park 'em!
