The new Tornado GR4 tail

The new Tornado GR4 tail

Form your own opinions....

1. Through the heat haze - first glimpse...

2. Getting closer - the other side...

3. Full whack - impressive???
Image

4. Close up - inspiried???

I'm underwhelmed but it is at least an effort so I balance on the fence in this instance (although the pics were taken on terra-firma).

I suppose it qualifies for "better than nothing".....not very exciting is it?

Somebody should have referred them to German monster thread to see how to really paint a Tornado.

Go and look at how ZA469 looked in the 25 years markings... and wonder why all the good scheme designers have left the RAF?

Quite like the "30" element.

Good job they put the tacky Royal Air Force corporatew@nklogo (tm) on the spine or I'd never have known it was an RAF jet.

As do I, just a shame that's the extent of the scheme.

RoverDriver wrote:Near the top of the thread, when I asked what the event was, the reason is simply that the tail markings don't tell me! Years 30 of Tornado doesn't make sense to me, as I could have sworn that I was working with Tornado noise ringing in my ears in 1980, which is a bit over the Years 30.

It's presumably 30 years of frontline service as 9 Sqn were operational from 1982 while only TTTE were flying in 1980.

With all the special tails around this is possibly the worst, when you think of Goldstars tail it was outstanding, this seems like an after thought. still better than nothing, nice shots, awful haze!!

You would think that they could at least have got the symmetry correct - or did they run out of corporate RAF stickers for the right spine?

Nope. It doesn't even qualify for that. Complete and utter waste of money which I am sure could have been spend on something more worth while.

Awful
