Pair of Tomcats.

Pair of Tomcats.

Postby Lionheart on Tue 29 May 2012, 8:23 pm

A couple of 1:48 Tomcats. These were done a couple of years ago. The quality of build and photography leaves a lot to be desired but thought you might like to have a look.

Best regards, Will.

Great looking 'cats!

Is the VF-1 bird built from the Italeri kit?

Trying to make my mind up on what to do with a Hobbyboss F-14A - I really like the Wolfpack markings, especially the very early ones.

Other than that, I may go for a Desert Storm aircraft if I can find some decals (VF-84 ideally).

Absolutely nothing wrong with those, a panel wash and a spot of weathering would look great on them but the actual builds themselves are spot on

They look really smart. Always liked the VF-1 markings.

Agreed that a panel wash would really bring them to life, but a cracking pair anyhow.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. The Wolfpack aircraft is indeed an Italeri kit which, if I remember correctly, also includes decals for a VF-84 Jolly Rogers build.
After a break of a couple of years I'm just going to start another Tomcat, this time an Academy kit in the markings of VF-143, the Pukin' Dogs. I also think that the two builds shown would benefit from a panel wash but, because I can't afford an air-brush, and all my builds are hand-painted with a paint brush the thickness of paint tends to fill the panel lines. I've never tried weathering and panel washing but if someone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial then I'll give it a go on this next one.
Thanks once again.
Will.
