Hi Ian
very interested in joining a group going out friday and coming back monday - was thinking of doing it on our own but a bit wary on travelling to airshow on our own

I am part of a group doing just that. We are booked on a BA flight for early Friday, late flight on Monday. If you are in the industry, flights are £169. We are currently looking at hotels near the train station that serves Zhukovsky - approx. £30 per night for a 3 star hotel (twin or double incl. breakfast).

I have joined a Russian forum to see if there is any more info other than the details posted here, but there is nothing yet. I believe the flight programme has been doing the rounds since February so I'm guessing there will be changes. Apparently it will be a 2 day show held at Zhukovsky and it will be free! There are no details available yet on transport i.e. additional trains like they lay on at MAKS. If we can get enough interest I guess we could look at perhaps a minibus.

The group did go to MAKS last year so send us a PM if you need any advise on VISAs etc.

Hi guys

If anyone is considering this trip, but doesn't want to go for the week but just long weekend then we are happy to help, already 3 of us booked,we went for twin rooms in case other peeps wanted to share.

I can get flights via touchdown(industry website)with B/A,currently for £169 return from LHR.

Accomodation at hotel in Moscow for 3 nites is either £66 twin share or £120 double, inclusive of tax and brekky.

Currently a guide and mini van(up to 6 or 7 pax, depending if guide comes aswell),is working out to be $622 all up(£430),so if you devide that by 5 or 6 then it's around £70 each, not bad.

So all up including visa(£90)and some spending money it's not that expensive.

As stated before pm to discuss if interested.

Hi everyone, sorry if this post makes me sound like a complete idiot but I have never visited an airshow outside of the UK before. Myself and a friend are looking at attending this (what a line up so far!),

But how do you go about purchasing tickets? I've trawled the internet but can find hardly any information regarding the event.

Thanks in advance.

There are members of UKAR putting a group together, see post above. This will not be the easiest show to attend for your 1st overseas visit, but it is possible.

We are all suffering a lack of hard n fast info at the moment as there is not a designated website yet. I have joined a Russian Aviation forum and one local has suggested that it is a free show. There is no info yet on transport which is why we are trying to put a minibus together. I travelled by train to MAKS last year (same airfield) and the biggest problem was the language barrier and overcrowding. Additional trains were laid on for that show. Other than that you just follow the crowds to the shuttle buses.
The cheap BA flights referred to above have now all gone, although there were Lufthansa flights, via Frankfurt, coming up for approx. £160.00 from Heathrow.

I'm going on an organised tour with George Pick/BAES - which includes Zadorozhny and Monino museums.

It's more expensive - but all-in and fully organised with a coach to the show.

If you want more details - see under 'Click here for tour listings' :- http://www.baes.org.uk/

I have booked my flights using BA miles (now called Avios miles)- 10,000 miles and £27 return including taxes et. They also offer Hotel accommodation but I am not sure if that is the best use of the miles. When I last looked they still had a few spare going out on Friday and quite a few coming back on Monday. Very easy to book and I have included my wife who enjoys the sound of roaring jets.

Well still no confirmed details on this event other than it's a 2 dayer at Zhukovsky on 11th and 12th August with what looks like an amazing although again unconfimed line up of aircraft.
Anyone have any other details on this event , tickets prices , on site parking pass ( as per MAKS Shows ) etc etc ?

I have a contact in Moscow who has confirmed that it reasonably easy to take a train from Moscow Kazanskiy to Zhukovskiy and then there are shuttle buses to the show. A Taxi will be about 2300 roubles (that about £45) each way so pretty expensive.

So not a bad idea to pick a hotel near to Kazanskiy station.

After a bit of research the apparent options for getting to Moscow from the Domodedov airport are
Aero express train to Moscow Paveletsky station takes about 50 minutes £6.30
There is a service where you can buy an Express train ticket that includes a metro ticket - about £7.50
Commuter train 70 minutes to Paveletsky (not sure of cost but must be less than Aero express
Express Bus 30 minutes (seems unlikely but thats the published time) Goes to Domodedovskia metro 100 Rubles (£2.0)
Shuttle bus £2.38
Taxi to central moscow £34
Taxi to North East or North West Moscow £43

The last time I was in Moscow was about 5 years back and then the traffic was diabolical - it took about 3 hours to get to Central Moscow by car and at the moment they are doing some work on the main route into Moscow. Hopefully it will be finished but if not...

Hi,
If your thinking of making a trip to Monino you bettr make sure that you have the correct paperwork as I've read quite a few different reports . Some say that you must apply in advance for a visit , some say that just turning up is OK. The last time I visited I had a contact who got me access without paperwork as he used to be a volunteer at the Museum but I would always air on the side of caution when visiting Museums etc in Russia. Paperwork and "cash" always works.

Guys,

The Russian magazine 'Takeoff' now has a description and a program - looks interesting!!!

Google Translate has a few problems - e.g. 'Wedge' = Klin, 'Cuban' = Kubinka etc - but the gist of it is there.

Thanks for those words of wisdom! An ever growing group, from here, is thinking of going to Monino on the way back to the airport. We will heed your advice when getting the minibus quotes!

In answer to some of the more recent queries above:
We have been told by our contacts in Moscow that there are no details yet about vehicle passes to get into the show, although they believe it will be similar to MAKS and could be as high as 150USD per vehicle.
The show is, apparently, free.

If you are wanting to drive to Zhukovsky, there are numerous park and ride bus routes. The roads around the airfield will close off to general traffic and only vehicles with passes will be allowed to drive onto the site. Expect carnage and huge amounts of traffic! One of the closest parking areas is on the fields that are just to the west of the road called Kooperativnaya ulitsa. The traffic police will dictate who parks where depending on your arrival direction. Get there early!

Here is the train schedule from Moscow Kazanskiy to Otdyh (Отдых) which is the station where you pick up the shuttle bus to the show
http://www.tutu.ru/rasp.php?st1=20000&s ... 07.06.2012.

It looks like there are a lot of trains available.

My next thought is to try and find a hotel that has a direct metro or walking distance to central Moscow as well as direct metro or walking distance into Moscow Kazankiy.

I have stayed a little way out of the Centre of moscow in the past and seem to have a habit of getting ripped off by taxi drivers - specially the ones provided by the hotels! thats why I am interested in the Metro - but it can be very confusing given the russian alphabet. Also worth mentioning that the outskirts of Moscow can be very bland with very little going on so you end up spending more in the hotel with food and drink etc but whatever its never going to be a cheap break.

I have heard from contact in Moscow that the airshow will be organised by same company that runs MAKS,which makes sense,it will be free to get in thou, but as MAKS organising maybe possibilty of media platform southside, more details will be available from July apparently.

Hope this helps a bit.

I have conflicting info to the last post regarding on who is organising this event. This is an email I received from a contact at Russian Helicopters who I have asked if he would be kind enough to find out as much as he can regarding the Celebration Air Show.........

"Russian AF 100th Anniversary Celebrations. I have phoned to my friend in MAKS Organizing committee and he explained to me that neither MAKS Committee nor Russian Aviation Industry enterprises have anything to do with it. Ministry of Defense organizes this Flying Show. At present there is not much information about Show carrying out. They say that there will not be any tickets for Show and visiting will be organised by special invitations released by MOD. Frankly speaking I do not understand how they intend to manege this mass public action."

This seems to make sence to me as I have sent emails to the MAKS organisers at Aviasalon and have had no reply. It seems that any anyone wanting to go to this show will have to wait until the last minute for any real hard and fast info to get anything organised. I wonder what Ian Allan et all are doing regarding details for this show ?

Hope the info has been of some use.

If I hear any more info I'll post.

"August 11 will be held in “common sky” international military practice meeting"

Does this mean the display will take place over Moscow? Has anyone been able to comfirm the location of the show? It seems from the last list that its split across 2 possibly 3 airbases?

Its very confusing :( But to see the T-50, well heck, ALL of the display aircraft in such large numbers seems to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Thinking about going with Ian Allen on the trip. What concerns me is having to pay for the tour before getting the visa and being told IF something went wrong regards getting visa then I lose the whole £1,400 paid to the tour operator plus the £100 cost of visa.
Looks a great event and I know Ian Allen are brilliant. But every way I look at this trip it looks like costing me nearly £1,800 in total.

To think I used to think going to the states was hard!

Has anyone any idea on the static lineup for this?
