92, along with 19, were due to be the first unit equipped with the Eurofighter as it was called then so every excuse to model a Tiffie in 92's markings.

Superb pics, thanks for posting.

The first pic brilliant, then look at it again, go off in a corner and have a little weep,I doubt very much that we can even assemble those sort of numbers of fast movers in one place now, let alone a line up of operational aircraft ready to go.

Great stuff.................especially the first one. Any shots with the wing tanks on the top of the wings????? I am amazed how they did that and why they did that!!!!!!!!!

Never saw an F2/F2A with wing tanks so no pics I'm afraid. The reason for the over wing tanks was that there was no room to put them under the wing. I don't think the Lightning was cleared for combat while carrying them so they were a rare sight at the best of times.

Great shots. I like the line-up shot but the last one is my favourite.

Just checked with my Lightning techie mates and they say that over wing tanks were never carried by the F2/F2A. F6 most certainly did though.

That first image is iconic. It wouldn't get on Airliners.net however as it's not level.
Is there any chance it could be edited?

When I see old photos like this I like to look on google earth. Greenham Common was a good one for that where there were some remenants idenifiable like marks on the concrete. But this one has the parking area more curved and the hangars look to come off the tower at a straight angle. On GE they don't! Perhaps I need to go and get some fresh air and not worry................................

It wasn't a suggestion, merely an observation. I'm sure Leconfield doesn't have a slope like that. Levelling an image isn't that difficult and would make it look a whole lot better - its still a great image though.

I do know how to level an image just didn't think anybody would kick up such a fuss. :)

What also amazes me is that this was only 19 years after the end of WW2!!!!

What is more amazing is that Leconfield shot has fifteen airframes in it from several different squadrons, all that only ten years after first flight of the prototype and a mere 4 after the fist airframe entered squadron service, how long did the Eurofighter take?, I suppose we were a great nation...........once

Setting aside that silly fuss over nothing - what a terrific set of pictures. The Lightning still takes some beating for raw power and boy did we get some of that in its heyday at airshows!!
