Rockness Festival 2012 - Updated

Postby Macc on Thu 14 Jun 2012, 7:56 pm

An extremely busy weekend with music review site http://invernessgigs.co.uk/ at Rockness 2012 saw me cover my first major festival and gain a lot of experience during the course of it. The atmosphere was very relaxing however, although timings often caused rushes it was an enjoyable three days.

1. Mystery Jets were the first band I took the liberty of photographing.

2. Already the crowd were loving it and getting involved.

3. After coming out of the press pit this gives you an idea of what it was like from the crowd's perspective.

4. I also ended up working with two guys from Nut Productions who had plenty of live sessions and interviews set up. This one here is the Whisky River Band, a local band from near Inverness.

5. Candid shot in the main stage vicinity.

6. Noah & The Whale in the rain.

7. Had it been much heavier, an arc would have been preferred over a whale.

8. Mumford & Sons headlined, superb band.

9. Last time I had seen them they were in a crammed venue called The Loft near Forres, a minute venue.

10. Ed Sheeran during one of the interviews with Nut Productions.

11. A Dalek exterminating a drink whilst The Rapture were on.

12. DJ Fresh live was somewhat better than anticipated.

13. The guys at the barrier were enjoying it too!

14. The View initially performed in the third largest tent, but were so popular the security had to stop people going inside and some angry punters apparently fiddled with the tent causing the set to be postponed and staged on a larger stage the next day. This is from the initial set where they managed 5 or so songs.

15. Promotional drum kit with their new album title.

16. Local band Red Kites were fantastic.

17. Backstage with Bastille, I believe this was their first gig in Scotland.

18. Having their introduction filmed for their acoustic session with Nut Productions.

19. The familiar outfit of Deadmau5 for those who know of him.

20. The big wheel in the background was a great background for pictures.

21. Deadmau5 again.

22. This is the view of the main stage from the top of the hill.

23. Iain McLaughlin of The Outsiders, who are an excellent band if you have the time. Another session with Nut Productions.

24. The Rifles were excellent.

25. Biffy Clyro, note on the left of the frame is the column of flame from a pyro machine. Headlining the Sunday (final night.)

Lots more to come.

Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, Ed Sheeran, Deadmau5, Mystery Jets, DJ Fresh AND Biffy Clyro?! How did I miss this?! Great shots Macc, very well handled in what appear to be in some very challenging conditions!

What set up did you use?

Nikon D80 + Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR

Hoping to purchase a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 and Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 to replace the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D though.

You only get three songs in the press pit which can be a struggle, and when you get really deep colours like blue and red it can kill the detail in images. So yeah, it's not particularily easy.
