Disappointing... at least it was "only" a flypast... maybe room in the flying display for something else, especially if the Vulcan doesn't make it either.

And if isnt? You look a fool for such a silly post

You do realise that the USA isnt a great candidate for a country that has never displayed before

If it is a B1, a lot of people would be disappointed. Its hardly a rareity in a RIAT context and RIAT would realise that, so they wouldnt have put the post they did, no we havent seen one for a few years, but for anyone who has attended for more than a couple of years they were pretty regular.

I do agree I dont see the B1 as " very special"

Also is it the case that the " very special" one is from a new country? I am not certain that is the case although could be wrong.

I cant figure out why they would put very special in quotes.

Only just had chance to look at the update and well chuffed to see the German F4 listed :yahoo: C5 is also a great addition been a few years since we have had one now, and despite what some have said great support from the USA so far. UAE C-130 in support will be a nice catch aswell.

As for the special item would guess the JASDF KC767 for that although a B2 would be ok I suppose

Global Hawk was listed earlier, but it's a full scale plastic model so not too exciting.

Its a good update, but I think some people are getting a bit over excited. There isnt much that wouldnt be considered pretty expectable, yes its good for it all to be confirmed, but unlike some updates, there isnt much that makes you sit up and take notice

And I think some people's expectations are too high. Do you really expect Slovak MiG-29s and Qatari Mirages with less than two weeks until the first arrivals?

No, and please point out where I had those expectations.....? Please point them out.....

There is a position between unrealistic negativeness and silly over excitedness. This update is good, but there have been plenty of better ones, so the undiluted happy clappy posts today are too extreme in my view. Its not THAT GOOD an update.

It may be the last time you get to see one in the UK. I can't see the trend of them not turning up at UK shows ending. Which will be a great shame other than the TU-160 (which doesnt seem to display) I can't think of a better Airshow moment than that beast blasting off.

This post wasn't exclusively directed at you. We've had numerous posts claiming "insider information" that these enigmatic items were "close to being confirmed" which has, undoubtedly, resulted in unrealistic expectations. Considering the amount of time left before the show, the fact that the flying display is full and it is almost guaranteed that no new items will be announced on that front, and that no nations aside from Slovakia are currently listed as being in the negotiating stage (unless RIAT isn't telling us something), I think today's update is about as good as we can expect it to be.

Happy to be proven wrong next week

Like everyone agree this is a good update. The airshow for me doesn't need one "great" addition like the F22 or Bear in years gone by. I much prefer concentrating on getting lot's of "good" like the Osprey, Mig 29, F18, Koreans and now C5 static that I am more than happy. With the number of aircraft on static this year, especially including all the heavies, the runways are going to look far more full and exciting than in recent years. Simply cannot wait now.

i don't see the problem in people being over excited... some people never saw any of these planes and are coming to RIAT for the very first time... it was a good update... personally i have never seen the c5 and the f4 is the last time you will see it in the uk.. 2 kc135s added, a kc10.... considering budget cuts and all RIAT is making a very good job and people who express the so called excitedness can only make RIAT feel gratified with what they're doing.

I'd like to know why people keep saying the flying display is full... firstly that announcement was made quite a while ago (I can't remember if it was by someone from the RIAT team or not) but since then we have definitely lost the Super Etendart and possibly the Vulcan and there is still plenty of time for others to cancel. I will admit it is unlikely if something were to cancel a week before the show, RIAT would be able to find a replacement but I think we can rest assured, the team at DBH would do as much as they could. There could still be room in the display schedule so don't count anything out until you see the flying programme.

the runways are going to look far more full

 I think you've been going to the wrong airfield, Fairford only has the one

Less of the spiky posts (Duxfordian) and of the Secret Squirrelling (rabbity1952).

If it is a B-1B, or anything else, it will have come about in the same way the other aircraft have - via months of dialogue with the relevant Air Attaches, and respective military chain of command.

Delighted with the update. Phantom, C-5 and KC-10 stand out for me.

For the "special aircraft", I am going to throw a curveball. I was speaking to a friend last week, who will be helping out at the Air Tattoo, and he is adamant that it will be a Tupolev Tu-95 "Bear". Obviously I am taking this with a pinch of salt; my guess is that it is the SAAB Viggen.

As for the country, I'm still more certain it will be the JASDF rather than the Chinese.
