Please don't lynch me - but help!

Postby strangelookingalien on Sat 23 Jun 2012, 7:15 pm

OK so let me start by saying i'm the last person who wants to freeload. I'm a friend of Duxford and attend most of their shows as a paying customer - but unfortunately this Sunday (the day I was intending to visit legends) I have had another commitment crop up in the morning.

I really don't want to miss Snafu and the P-38 and was wondering if anyone has experience of getting to a Duxford airshow early afternoon - or - (and I dare say preferably as i'm not going to be there at all in the morning) is there anywhere nearby I could catch some of the flying from outside the airfield?

I quite understand if no one wants to provide this information - but I thought i'd ask on the off chance, for obvious reasons!

One year I arrived at legends at 2pm and drove straight in (overspill car park), went to the tank bank end and got a decent view without having to push to the front, then no rush leaving and wait for traffic to die down.

Go Friday, chances are you could see both flying.

Seeing as Waddington is on as well, I don't somehow think the gates will be locked this year due to a full house.

Unfortunately couldn't get the Friday off work!

Does anyone know what time the flying is due to start?

I feel sort of hard-done by spending thirty quid for only half a day as I do enjoy the morning but... not Duxford's fault really... better suck it up, hand over my thirty quid and see some flying. Fingers crossed.

Flying usually starts at 2pm, and ends around 5.30pm.

As pbeardmore says it's usually possible to drive straight in just as flying starts as the queues have died away. Either that or it's a sell out and you're stuffed but I can't see it happening this year.

If you can't see Snafu think its down for the September show but sadly the P38 is not.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately can't make it Saturday either. I'm not much of a warbird fan but I really would love the chance to see the P-38, as it may not happen again.

Duxford village school used to charge about £7 for parking.A short walk back towards the M11 end will get you a decent view plus they sold some light refreshment to raise a bit of money for the school. Might be an alternative if you only have a short time to spare.
