Just a footnote,I've asked why there is no flypast listed for this Friday and on the 16th/17th! I will no doubt find out here! :cuppa: Usually the first Friday of the Tattoo catches me off guard!

Can confirm I heard over scanner it was cancelled, bit of a shame but when you saw the mist and low cloud what can you do? Let's hope we see at least some of them.

Where I was waiting,I think my scanner had a bit of trouble picking up broadcasts of Edinburgh ATC from time to time.Let's hope the weather clears up today to get a flypast in! :cuppa:

Hi Citizen! There's a cracking area to the East of the Crags, you're overlooking St Margarets Loch and Holyrood park,You are a bit higher up than the crags but not as high as Arthurs Seat itself,to your right you should see the Flats at Lillyhill, and straight ahead Easter Road stadium, you can access that part of the hill above St Anthony's chapel via a wee path from the start of the top road of Queens Drive opposite the Lillyhill flats. You can google map/earth it and the wee path I mentioned is right opposite the car in the layby of Queens drive,it's marked by 2 wee boulders if you zoom in! Follow that path all the way to that part of the hill I mentioned, and you are in for a treat!
Other places to capture the flypasts which come recommended are Calton hill and The Crags.Keep in mind there is this speed of light event happening in Holyrood park and the road is closed from 8.I may try to access park from Meadowfield park in the Willowbrae area.
Best of luck!

Edinburgh ATC changed his routing due to Aircraft on approach so I sort of heard jet noise but never saw anything.

Hi all! I heard the routing last night too, Yes it was a Typhoon! Captured it nicely on camcorder as he flew over the crags and gave it full afterburner laldy over the castle! Very happy! Well done 6 sqn! :worship:
I think his callsign was TALLON (being a 6 sqn machine would make sense as the raptor and serpent crest of 6 sqn would suggest the callsign Tallon) If anyone else can confirm that,it would be welcome!

Glad to be of help citizen!

Callsign was JEDI 61. Even though I never actually saw it I heard it over radio and a distant roar of jet engines.

2 Typhoons and 2 x Tornados, being led by a first for me - 1 Squadron Typhoon. One Tornado was marked 2 Squadron and the tail-end charlie Typhoon was 6 Squadron. Lovely night they got for it.

I see from Spiny Norman's picture that the 2 Typhoons are from the forthcoming No.1 Sqdn and No. 6 Sqdn both from Leuchars but you don't happen to know which Lossiemouth (I would imagine) Squadron the 2 Tornado GR.4s are from even though one has 2 Sqdn markings.

Anyone happen to know wether it would be possible to get IDs for the 4 Jets?

Fantastic photo Spiny! Like the way the setting sun is caught on the aircraft.
Tonight's bit of heavy metal will hopefully give it full afterburner laldy over the castle! That will do me nicely thankyou! I'll hope to be situated somewhere up the hill to capture it,so far from what I have been told,it looks like a nice evening sky for tonight's flypast.
Hope they all had a safe landing after the birdstrike,oh well, eyes to the sky everyone!
