Bex Airfield Open Doors

Post by Chucky »

Hello everybody,

Bex is a small airfield situated between Geneva and Sion. There is a grass runway of 800 meters length, just enough for a Spitfire Mk IX on a hot summer day !

I never saw a Spitfire flying so low, it was great. Thank you Nigel

Great to see the ex-UK Avenger is still in fine fettle, and doing what it does best... flying.
I have never seen one of those long-snouted cabs in the air (Schlepp?) either :(

It is. Used to fly over here with Tony Haig-Thomas before being sold.

Yeah but its not been back since. I've never seen an Avenger flying full stop. Thats one for a Legends wishlist.

Just goes to show that you don't need 10+ Spitfires in the air at once to create a magical event. Who was flying MH434?

Waooh thank you all for the positive comments

The Spitfire was flown by Nigel Lamb who was convided to a formation flight with the Avenger and Yves "Jetman" Rossi.

There are actually two airworthy C-3605 in Switzerland : the HB-RDH is based in Bex and Sion, the other one is the HB-RDB based in Altenrhein.

Can't believe I missed these, superb set. Nigel did a lovely display at Duxford just before he left to go to Switzerland, must have been even more impressive at Bex judging by the shots above.

Fantastic set! Looks like something taken at an airfield somewhere in Europe during the second world war.
