3RD & 4TH OCT: Scottish Road Trip

Post by Lloyd H »

Well what a trip, non-stop laughs, the comfort and heated seats of Tals fridge, a lot of rain & great mates! So glad we all decided to go in the end, although everything didn't go as planned with Ellins managing to pass the lurgy round and not being able to do as much LL as we had hoped but there will be more time to do that in the next few weeks hopefully! We spent the Wednesday afternoon & evening photographing at Lossie, Thursday was spent inside and outside for the evening recoveries and Friday was spent on Bowerhope in the S-M although me & Tal descended early to have a bite to eat only to get car parked by a Tuc

Apologies for the amount of shots, C+C welcome..

Some nice shots however I have to say all these close cropped shots of parts of aircraft are not really my cup of tea. Nothing particularly against your shots just a general personal view. The third would be my pick however if it had been me I would have tried to remove the lens flare on the hill. That said a fine set of shots for sure and right up there with many other fine sets we have seen from this years JW.

Thanks, all for a bit of constructive crit! Personally I wouldn't say they were all closely cropped but I suppose everyone has a different eye for composition  Thanks again!

I agree they are not and they are some of the better ones this just a personal view. Tastes change and in a few months I may have come round to this style again and I have done this myself on occasion so not totally adverse to it. I can see there is merit for the close crop when constrained at say an airshow static however we as a group seem to using that style more and more and I wonder if it is to the detriment of potentially great shots of the full airframe. It is the same with black and white, I love B&W shots but there is a time and place. Anyway sorry for diverting your thread. Again great shots and certainly provided a talking point which after all is the purpose of all works of art is it not?

Very sharp and some nice compositions that's for sure. Very rich toned too which reminds me of Fuji Velvia. My pick would be no 7 the Typhoon taxying away, very nice indeed. (Surprised none of our eagle-eyed watchers noticed that 22 and 27 are the same pic though!)

Ha ha good spot. Glad you mentioned that as it got me wondering about the helmets being used. Why the lumps on them anyone know?

The lumps are position detectors for the BAES Striker Helmet.

Awesome set - I agree with the post up the page - lovely tones, and some so sharp I cut myself just looking at them.

Hard to pick a favourite as they're all class shots. The Typhoon shots stand out, plenty of neat compositions.

Some lovely light in these, and from some different viewpoints to the usual Lossie spots. Especially like the Tornado with the town in the background. The crops with the bits of aircraft don't really work for me, but at least you're going for something different rather than just the standard shots.

Very enjoyable set especially those in low light. Compositions good too. I`m not a lover of the 'wonky' horizons Lloyd but that`s me.
