Ghosts of Binbrook Past

Post by Fred Martin »

I've not posted any Lightning slide scans for some time , so here's a seasonal selection picked from my collection from some great days spent at this hill-top paradise . Additional info is included in the URL .
Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you all .

Some great memories there Fred. Happy Christmas to you too.

Anyone know what the blue badge is on the nose of the two 11 Sqn Lightnings in picture two?

Brilliant pictures.

The blue badge is of WS10, Waffen Schule 10 of the West Germany AF at Jever. If the photos were taken after 1983, the badge is of JBG38.

WS10 flew (T)F-104s until 1983 when the name changed to JBG38, flying Tornadoes.

Fred, these have made my week  . There's something rather poignant about XS452 sitting in a hangar corner with her panels off, and the flying shots of AE and BG look like air to airs ! Lovely stuff.

Thanks for another small peep into your Frightning portfolio, don't hold back with sharing more please,
Phil

I notice the QRA shed is still in place on the Google earth and Bing aerial pics of Binbrook!
If my memory is correct, they demonstrated a QRA at the 1978 airshow  ....these pics bring back some good memories...
