Is the Arrestor Cable landing an Emergency or part of Training?

Thanks guys,

Chris, it was an emergency landing. As we arrived at the base, a Blue Angel bird had also had an emergency landing and was being towed off the runway.

Thanks mate, they were on the visitors ramp near the main gate, consisting of a mixed batch of AH-1W, AH-1Z and UH-1Y.

This is as close as they came to us sadly:-

Oooh, the HMLAT colour bird, not seen that or even a picture of it. Pity about the distances!

Very nice indeed Andy.

Did you get bothered by anyone whilst standing at the fence? Never been to El Centro (well, not strictly true - drove past on Highway 8 in 1978!) but may have a chance later this year.....

What focal length did you use?

Hi,

As long as you stand away from the fence you are fine there is a drainage ditch that's raised up that you can stand up on to shoot over the fence. I used a 50-500 but the others with me had 100-400's.

We used two different locations

If you look at my set on Flickr, the maps are geotagged to the exact locations.

Thanks for the comments.

Andy
