Scalaria Air Challenge - Catalina and friends on the Lake

Post by Griffon_301 »

Hello!

it´s been a long time since I posted here;
while lurking and watching in awe the works of others, there were not that much airshows here in Austria in the last few months (Airpower being the exception, but the light for taking good pictures was abysmal on Friday);
well, but thanks to a generous friend, I got a media invitation for the Scalaria Air Challenge, taking place each year in the wonderful village of St. Wolfgang on the Lake Wolfgang (the Weisses Rossl is also there)

not the typical airshow, but a great experience nevertheless with some great flying during the late afternoon and early evening hours..
and wow, seeing a Catalina heading the other way while landing a mere 30 metres away with yourself crusing in a small electro boat on the lake is something to behold :)

have fun watching:

of course, the star of the show where the big amphibians, Iren Dornier´s Do-24ATT

and of course - the Catalina

but of course there were also other classic floatplanes and amphibians visiting

and the show itself was something to behold!
we got "Blacky" Schwarz performing in the Cobra

as well as Raimund Riedmann in the B-25 (which went to Duxford the very next day btw)

and there was this very athmospheric display of "Team Blanix" with their two gliders

finally, we also had the opportunity for a mini "night shoot"

a great show, a great experience, great holidays - it need not always be loud, fast and noisy jets :)

thanks for watching, c&c as always welcome :)

thank you gentlemen for all your kind comments!

should you ever have the chance to visit St. Wolfgang-do it!
the scenery is great there, and you have flying going on nearly all day long - joyrides, practice flights or just happy aircraft owners who love to show off their birds and enjoy the living....
did I mention the great food?

honestly, if you have ever wondered why the Catalina is not at Duxford Legends when Scalaria is taking place on the same weekend, just head there to see for yourselves why :)

Excellent set, love them all! The night shot of the Catalina on lake really is nice, not something you'll ever see over here. That Do-24 :drool:
