C-130K Draw Down

Post by danoz »

Over the last couple of months of the C130K's service life I have been lucky enough to be invited to a few special moments with the 47Sqn crew.
First up was 'air landed aircraft refuelling point' (ALARP) practice on Salisbury Plain Training Area, this involved strip landings and field refuelling a Merlin and Chinook helicopter with Hercules XV303 being the doner aircraft.
I Was also invited to attend the already covered Northolt Nightshoot mid October.
The next item on the agenda was quite possibly a moment of complete magic, the final tour around the UK photographing two C-130K's from a J aircraft over the British countryside. A memory il never forget.
After this it was time to say goodbye just four days after. XV214 spent her last night in the warm hangar at RAF Brize Norton while XV177 braved the Oxfordshire weather.
So on the 29th October at around 1000L the final two K's taxied to the threshold and with a slight pause headed in to the distance as I looked on from the tower.
Somehow I cant see the J model lasting as long as the K.
An enormous thankyou to the very helpful guys at 47Sqn.
I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did taking them.

On the flight with the J and the 2 K's (for brevity) you flew right over my house. Any pictures of Great Oakley just on the southern edge of Corby?
