Spitfire XV111e SM845 at Duxford -- UPDATED
Duxford Wednesday 11/12/13. At a rather foggy Duxford this morning the latest Spitfire restoration by the HFL/ARCo teams put in her first public appearance. Congratulations to all involved.

I think this one is for Richard Lake at Humberside airport who has the Desert camo Buchon and TD248 at the moment?

Yep. I think the Spit XVIII was only in service post-war? The scheme looks like the ex-Hong Kong Spit F24 so I would guess very late Forties or even Fifties.
This looks fantastic, can't wait to see it in its proper element!

Potted history of SM845
Built in 1945 and delivered to 39MU, May 1945 then transferred to 46MU in December 1945, before being shipped to Karachi for service with South East Asia Air Command February 1946.
Transferred to the Indian Air Force December 1947 and issued with Serial No. HS687. Served with the Indian Air Force until the late 1950's before being used as a decoy at Kalaikunda air base near Calcutta during the 1970's. One of eight Spitfires recovered from India in 1977 by Ormonde Haydon-Baillie.

That looks tasty, I reckon the low back and longer nose look better in silver than the BBMF's IX

It will spend most of its time away from Duxford as it will be based at Humberside airport.

At shows, I mean, oh great Bimbler.
It'll tail-chase at Legends, and not much else, I'd wager.
Well Richard Lake's other two aircraft are at more or less every Duxford show, so unless there is a reason we don't know of, I cannot see why the XVIII will be any different?

Yet this year, Richard Lake's two other aircraft TD248 and the Desert Buchon have appeared at numerous events including Yeovilton, Shoreham, East Kirkby, Legends and Duxford's Autumn show...
