RAF TriStar retirement

Post by DamienB »

Sneaking quietly out of service, the RAF's fleet of TriStars is gradually retiring and will be all gone by next week. So far one has been delivered to Kemble (for scrapping), two are at Cambridge (also to be scrapped) and two have been delivered to Bruntingthorpe (one as a possible ground runner, the other plus the remaining four still in service to possibly be sold on to another operator).

Here are the two that have been delivered to Bruntingthorpe so far...

Nice shots mate, done plenty of touch ups on these two! Be good if one is kept at Brunters as a runner too, how likely is that?

Good shots Damien, Thanks for sharing. So what will happen to 216 Sqn now ? Will they be disbanded or will they get Voyagers ?

216 squadron will close on the 31st of March. Our colours were paraded for the last time at a disbandment parade yesterday at Brize Norton.

Probably never to reform as the two voyagers squadrons are already stood up as 10 and 101 respectively.

But don't forget the A400M Atlas. I thought no.10 were due to operate that.

24 Squadron are confirmed as the first A400M designate.

Really sorry to hear the sad news about 216 Sqn - lots of history and tradition about to end, not to mention all of the dedication and sheer hard work by all of the Tristar crews and groundcrew / support during the recent and ongoing conflicts. Particularly sad for me too as I was on 216 at Honington in ' 79 - '80 when we flew Buccaneers and Hunters .

25th March at Brunty, four aircraft delivered on one amazing day. Some impressive flying in dismal conditions.
