Twin engine GB , 1/48 Lightning +++ Finished +++

Post by BFA »

Well , with the TSR2 project finished I've turned my thoughts to the GB.
I was going to start with the Phantom FG1 but have been talked into doing the Airfix 1/48 Lightning.

Only just started , so here's the box and sprue shots.
First impressions are good with excellent detail.
Not quite sure if it will be the F2A or F6 version yet ....

May not get updated for a week as I'm waiting on some extra bits and bobs for this build ;)

Indeed. I've the same problem with the two in my stash. Too many schemes, only so much plane. I may need more.

Good choice! This one narrowly missed out being my choice too. Got the decals to do mine as a 23 sqn F6, already done the OOB 92 sqn F2A. Watch the belly/gun pack area, that needs a bit of filler but fit wise it really is a lovely kit

Small update .....

Finished off the seats with the belts and pull handles.
Then I tackled the cockpit , unfortunately I got a bit carried away and forgot to snap any pics and only got around to taking one when the fuselage had been joined , wings and other bits attached and ready to paint .

All ready for some paint. She sits rather well on her tail to allow east painting :)

Top coated in Xtracrylix RAF Camouflage ( Barley ) grey

ImageIMG_2667 by Dorsettrooper, on Flickr

had a little experiment this evening with some wash , just to see how it works on the wing.

Also put together the rather nice exhausts that came on the photoetch sheet , I'm not even going to paint these as when installed in the rear they look fantastic just as they are.

That's it for now ,
Cheers,
Andy

Sorry for the slow updates , I've finally got past the nightmare stage on this.
Got to say the decals in this kit are an absolute nightmare , like working with wet tissue paper

Anyway , they are on now and I'm moving forward.

That looks amazing! I really wish I had the skill to paint models well. Mine always looked they had been done by an impatient 6 year old and I've never persevered with it.

Looks incredible, you're really making me want to pick up a 1/48 kit, but I've always been useless at aircraft kits (more of a Warhammer person myself).

Well you know I haven't actually played it in yeeears, I only did back then against my friend anyway, I've always been into the hobby side over the game side, but even at the tectonic pace I buy and paint models, the prices they're at now I can't afford to do it any more. Fortunately I still have some to paint (haven't picked up a brush in months mind), but GW has gone in a poor direction of late in my opinion.

And she's done !

Word of warning .... the metal cast ladders from Airwaves ... stay away ! they are shockingly bad.

I'll put the other pictures in the finished build section.

Another top quality build.. I bet it would go great side by side with the TSR2. If I could have got into this group build, I would have done my Lightning from the sash as well. Well done on this one.
