Special Schemes GB - 1/7/14 to 31/10/14

Post by Deacon »

I thought I had better get this posted as the start of the GB is tomorrow! :dizzy:

Rules
1). The Group Build runs from 1st July 2014 to 31st October 2014. It has been extended by a month as things like summer holidays and air shows get in the way during July and August. :yahoo:

2). Any armed forces aircraft that is wearing a special scheme may be entered, Tiger Meet, Display Teams and even anniversary types such as the F-4 retirement from the German Air Force. No "What If's".

3). Any scale is eligible but no "snap together" style kits.

4). This isn't an out-of-the-box only GB, so any aftermarket sets can be used, and you can scratch build details to your heart's content.

5). Post a thread of your build, showing shots of your progress (at least 3). If you can, share some tips with us that you think might be useful (to do with a specific technique or aspect of the kit for example).

6). Kits started before the beginning of the Group Build are allowed but no more than 20% complete - ask if you're unsure.

7). Post shots of your finished model in the gallery thread.

8). This is for fun - enjoy your own, and everyone else's modelling.

Cheers guys.

Alan

Nice..... I'll be all over this one. Not sure with what yet since I'm already on the road to RIAT. Currently in Ontario at the outlaws... I mean in laws  Flying out to London tonight with an arrival to Gatwick in the AM. I know I have at least 7 kits to choose from for this build, but I'll have to see the stash when I get home.

So, if 'm reading this right, you're not going to start on this until after your holiday?

No commitment, that's all I can say!

Very tempted to join this one, the 'extended' time-frame will suit me a little better...

My choice will be from the selection below:

Revell Monogram 1/48 Su-25 with Czech special from Boscombe Down '92
Academy 1/48 F-16 Thunderbird
Academy 1/48 T-50 Black Eagle
FREMS 1/48 MB339 Frecce Tricolori
Hasegawa 1/48 Phantom Alcock and Brown

Not sure that's the full selection or not, and I can't check as they are in the loft...

I'm looking at the Thunderbird F-16 as I see it being a more straightforward build (I hope) :ninja:

My vote (not that you are asking, would be the Frecce Tricolori.

But then I'm just glad you're joining us on this one.

Am I permitted to build the same scheme as someone else but in a different scale? Derek F could be building a 1:32 Red Arrows hawk. I was thinking of doing a 1:72 Reds hawk with a Reds knat on some sort of anniversary stand thing. Looking forward to this group build. Been trying to do one since the naval aviation one but been stuck doing Airfix Lynxes

I might join in with a T-33a flown by Dutch demo-team Whiskey Four in the 1960's. The Academy kit in 1/48 seems nice and quite straightforward.

I couldn't get the Mohawk OV-1c finished in time for the twin engine GB (sorry Alan) but will post pictures of the progress this weekend in the regular modelling thread.

No need for the "sorry" mate, is just great to have you joining in when you can.

I'm going to bring some other builds to the GB but whilst looking at what to build I got thinking a bit more out of the box. Would schemes such as BBMFs PR.19 'The Last' be permitted along with aircraft such as The Red Barons Triplane? If not the i've got plenty on F-16s to choose from

I don't think the two schemes you mention quite fit in the idea behind this GB,
but nice ideas though.

Ok guys... I have a choice of two kits for the remaining time on this build. There is no way I would have enough time to build them both, so I'm going to leave the choice up to you....... I have a choice of Airfix's 1/72 scale Nimrod with aftermarket decals celebrating XV229 Kinloss wing 1984 winning of the Fincastle Trophy or the Academy's 1/48 scale Australian F-111C with some photo-etch for the cockpit and marked in 131 Squadrons 30 years.
A couple of shots of what I have..... I'll leave the choice till Tuesday this week to see what you guys think I should build.
