Also lots of civvy jets sea vixen, xh558, hunter, coventry's meteor all relatively close. But as you said with no role demo cosford could well be a major disappoinment this year.

Dont know if you will get the LN F-15 for anything other than a flyby. I thinkt the display pilots are based in the US, and fly LN aircraft when they come here for big shows like RIAT.

Absolutely correct Ben - The Strike Eagle demo team is US based at Seymour Johnson AFB I think and they "borrow" LN jets if they come to Europe.

I would have thought that something Dutch or Belgian would have been more likely for Cosford - assuming the flying display committee actually hasmthe forethought to realise that the show is missing some "noise". But don't forget folks, as I keep harping on, that foreign participation is by no means key to the RAF engagement strategy, so don't hold your breath!!

In terms of the engagement strategy, now the role demo is gone how about a "Royal Air Force Through Time" tableaux, showing visitors/taxpayers the past (using historic aircraft/jets) and the present (through the solos/teams). How about a progression through Great War Team, Hawker Nimrod, WW2 Airfield Attack/scramble (involving the Me-108 pair and a couple of Spits), Meteor/Vampire duo (a la Kemble/Jersey) and Hunter 'Miss Demeanour' (always popular!), followed by a progression through Tutor, Tucano, Hawk, King Air, Falcons, Typhoon and Reds.

Ok, nothing new or outlandish here but a bit more thought into the sequencing of items to provide something a bit more cohesive for an enthusiast. And it's not as though this sort of sequencing is unachievable - the Southend and Southport seafront shows as well as Kemble and Biggin have been good at doing this in the last couple of years. And, more to the point, things like the Great War Team, the WW2 Airfield attack and 'Miss Demeanour' are also a hit with the general public.

its just what I herd yesterday talking to one of the other possible displays pilots, apparently it has something to do with the sponsors (or lack of them I should say)

One of the last 3 RAF shows cancelled due to lack of sponsors. Pathetic... if true...

What sponsors? Shropshire Star and the local Co-op? thy surely can't be dependant on those for event funding? publicity and ticket distribution surely.

I hope it isn't true, a sorry state of affairs if so.

Lets hope not!

Still it was cancelled in 2003 if i remember right, think that was down to lack of RAF aircraft at the time.

Just to knock this on the head, I've spoken this afternoon (by phone) to the RAF Museum at Cosford and the rumours are untrue.

The person I spoke to said the event is "100% going ahead".

Excellent news, it would be good for the Museum to issue an official statement to quash this rumour for good

I'm quite pleased that it will be going ahead! However I am wondering what they will do to replace the massive void left by the cancellation of the 2009 RAF Role Demo!

Probably exactly the same as the last two years but with a slightly shorter display!

In all my years of going to Cosford - and thats a lot, believe me! I can't recall them ever doing this, not with the Tutors, the Vigilants, the Bulldogs or even the beloved Ventures. Probably the only RAF airshow where the home team don't get involved in the flying display and surely, one of the easiest to attain?? Okay, its not quite the "show of force" but it would demonstrate to the public what Cosford is all about.. (Think of all those empty seats for West Mercia's best cadets  )

I'm sure some of the home team (Vigilants maybe) were buzzing around in the morning last year - before the show started!

The Vigilants were operating as usual on the Sunday morning of the airshow last year.

I will sugget it to the Boss of our AEF about a formation flypast of our Tutor's. It won't be the fastest display but I'm sure the public will like it.
