Agusta Westland in Cornwall

Post by PeteM »

Agusta Westland have been busy training military aircrew from Nigeria at their facility at Newquay Airport since early September. They have been using ZR343 and ZR339, both Mk 641s from the batch originally intended for the Indian Air Force. ZR344 in Nigerian Air Force colours also paid a brief visit on the 30th September
These photos were taken at Newquay Airport and Davidstow Moor, AW have used this bleak disused airfield on the edge of Bodmin Moor a few times in recent weeks.

Waw what a great set of photos there, I was down there last week and saw ZR343 out and about, as for the Nigerian one on the 30th, I chose to go down to Culdrose that day and missed it, drat it....
Cheers for sharing these,
Rob

Good stuff. There can't have been many who spotted ZR344 at Newquay. Even fewer who've watched the Nigerians training at Davidstow. Davidstow certainly has it's own micro-climate!

Thanks Phil, I've certainly had more opportunity down here than when I was living inside the M25. Mind you retirement helps
They would look nice running under your lights.

Cheers, more mist and fog than Delabole  , but Davidstow is a fascinating place for sure.

Quite so. What of the livestock at Davidstow? I assume the rattling and clanking of the Merlin sent them all a scarpering?

Livestock wasn't really an issue, the animals kept clear. The helicopter used the main runway for several approaches and hovers tending to pick different points along the runway each time. The only obstacle was some idiot who decided he and his family would get a better view by parking his car in the middle of the runway.
