A busy 2014 (Pic heavy)

Post by PhilW »

It's been a ridiculously busy aviation year for me and I've barely scraped the surface of the material on my drives. I don't think I've put much, if anything, on UKAR this year so here's a pictorial diary of my year.

Starting with the penultimate pair of RAF Tristars into Bruntingthorpe:

April, a bimble to North Weald, and the launch of the Midair Squadron at Kemble:

Into May, and the first airshow of the year, Abingdon:

and the Invasion Stripe show at Duxford:

A couple of beauties in that little lot ;-)

Seriously, though, do like these, especially the tank

Some reasonable images, but an awful lot of compositions that just don't work for me I'm afraid. The Hunter disappearing behind the tree is a poor composition in the first place, even if the jet was sharp to start with.

The Midair cockpit shot is just about the least pleasing angle on a Hunter I can imagine - sometimes the shot isn't about cramming as much in as possible. Less is often more in photography.

Sorry to be critical Phil, as I know you, but these are a very mixed bag, suffering a good deal from a lack of sharpness and definition (possibly caused by uploading?). I'm sure you've taken better through the year.

August started with Damyns Hall:

and then something most of us thought would never happen in our lifetimes became a reality as out of the gloom, the world's second airworthy Lancaster arrived at a very welcoming Coningsby:

Those Biggin Lanc taxy shots show just what was missing on the Vera tour - nice work to get those shots
If you like these pics there are more utterly brilliant shots at https://www.flickr.com/photos/131094099@N08/albums

Well that kept me interested all the way through.Like the way you don't just concentrate on the aircraft and get the human factor in , or show the bigger picture ,ie the Reds down the Mall or the people watching the Dak etc.
Nice post

Dan, the purpose of the visit was to introduce the Midair Squadron, and that was one of the few angles that presented itself in the short time available that told that 'story'.
