They'll be flocking north soon - as ever nicely caught!

Another thought: I think this is one of the first II(AC) Squadron 'gatherings' in recent years that NAM hasn't been asked if we can send the Swift to it!! :hide:

Pretty poor effort there. The bars are good, but then you'd easily miss the rest. Surprised it's not a shield like the rest of the fleet, and framed on a darker background?

I agree! However I was mocked on social media for expecting some kind of uniformity, why II(AC) haven't got a shield like every other frontline squadron operating the Typhoon is beyond me..!

Nice images Al, you Scottish boys certainly seem to get some nice light.

Sadly, not every special tail or set of squadron markings is going to please everyone. I would just be thankful that the Typhoon squadrons are retaining some sort of identity unlike the Tornado squadrons which have become very bland of late by having very few marked up jets.
As has already been mentioned, very nice capture in cracking light. Right place at the right time.

Who mocked you on social media? All I saw was two differing views.

Peter - the afternoon light, and fortunately the morning light today, can be absolutely superb. What you don't see is the snow/sleet showers in between

I applaud them for daring to be different and for the higher command allowing them to bend the rules a little to get some individuality - Looking forward to a 'colourful celebratory' 2015 for some Squadrons

Very nice
I wonder what codes will be used? It would be nice to see them displayed inside the fin triangle.

I'm glad it's not the shield design seen on the rest of the Typhoon fleet. A nice bit of individuality.

The swop over is indoors in one of the Hangers with two Squadrons - No.II (AC) and No.12 (B), things are going to be a little tight.

Hope he does the decent thing on Monday, and pops into Selkirk to Moffat, on the way back to Lossie.

41 Sqn broke the mold when they took over the Typhoons from 17. At least its got some colour, bet the 17 Sqn F-35s will have grey on grey. But what did you expect all black tails?

I wonder if that's the intention, I think the squadron have operated an aircraft with a "II" code in the past.

Bugger ive just noticed that. I kind of like it in a strange way especially the knot.... perhaps make the roundel markings a bit bigger but its great to see the future of 2 sqn finally flying. Cant wait to see more.

As far back as the Jag and the Phantom at least, 2 Sqn had a single letter in the triangle on the tail, although I can't remember if there was one particular aircraft on the Sqn, with the roman numerals "II". When the Tornado fleet went to fleet tail codes, these codes began to disappear, and I think for a while, blank triangles were on the tail. What aircraft that carried 2 Sqn markings then began to appear with "II" in the triangle. (That is my recollection anyway, don't treat it as gospel).
