May 3rd VE Day airshow

Post by svas_volunteer »

Hi not sure if anyone has noticed but the provisional list for the airshow has been published http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/premiere/

Looks to be good with visiting Swordfish, Buchon, Mustang, Nimrod and displays from the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane plus on the ground there should be a gathering of WW2 military vehicles.

Steve

Apparently the list was posted in haste yesterday and I queried the 'second Demon' in the visitors, which is apparently an error. There will be no 'Demon formation'!

Looks very promising, a great venue for the Swordfish if it makes it. Hopefully they can persuade the Blenheim over at some point this year as well.

The recently released BBMF schedule lists a Spitfire only for this display. Makes me wonder how reliable the rest of the list is?

BBMF website only lists full displays - not what they class as "Flypasts." That is reflected on Shuttleworth's listing.

OK, flypast by the three and a full display by the Spitfire. Thanks for putting straight on that.

All of the flypasts and extra information from the bbmf usually gets posted up a couple of weeks before the event, can't wait to see the hawkers together in close formation.

The Collection's Sopwith Camel is now down as static only for this show.

I suspect it will be the Hangar 11 P-51D Jumpin' Jacques; I know PT is booked to appear at Old Warden on at least one occasion this year.

Hmmm, I'm still unsure which show to go to, but personally £22.50 looks like a lot for that lineup compared to Abbo

It's worth 22.50 just to see the Trio of Hawker bi planes let alone a Swordfish up close and personal at OW....

Join the SVAS and get discounted entry if £22.50 is to steep, admittedly you'd have to go 3 times in the year to make your money back

Whether you think this is a good thing or not, the Shuttleworth guys always put on a show when they can. A cancellation or scrubbing (especially numerous ones) often mean a replacement where they are able. I remember one year a lot got scrubbed 'cause of the wind and the actual display was nothing like the original list as they drafted in their types that could cope  I suppose that's a positive to having a whole collection at your disposal.

Weather isn't looking great though  light rain all day and a bit nippy
