Anyone visit the naughty field today?
Possibly going to visit duxford tomorrow but depends on personal circumstances.
Was hoping to get somewhere in the naughty field, how was it today for access, any grief?

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
I didn't go to Duxford myself today, but judging by reports from friends it would seem roads were blocked into the fields and that IWM had employed "security" personnel to "enforce" that nobody used the said fields.
Don't know if they were successful or not but sounded very much like a scene from "Keystone Cops"!

Not as busy as previous shows but at least 40-60 in various locations.
Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
Spent all day in the naughty fields to the east of Duxford.the school was open for parking. After paying to park and some breakfast I'd already saved £66 ! And to top it all off I had a stonking view! Didn't see any IWM staff at all.
Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
Just a shot in the dark here, is anyone who is planning to visit Duxford school tomorrow able to lend me a Canon 7D charger ?
I only remembered tonight that my only charger was sold along with my 5D2
I have 2 batteries, none is dead the other at 40%, thats going to be very limiting

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
The field seemed fairly quiet. There was a fair few people on the mound including the land owner in his 4x4.

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
When I asked the question last year I'm sure it was £9 a car? Think you also got a free cuppa and could chomp off the bbq for a donation??
Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
£8 for the school, a bit further down the road on the left a house with large garden with a view directly towards the airfield are charging £5 and they had a bbq.

Go to the school. There's a decent BBQ, and all money goes to the children. Playground equipment, books, school trips etc...
Some of the finest bacon rolls you're likely to find too. So thick, it's almost gammon!

Simply can't be beaten in the naughty field. The Mustang tail chase and Apaches were awesome from where we were

The Tiffy and the Reds were pretty cool from directly underneath too.

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
So how did you guys get into the naughty field and by pass the 'closed' roads and 'intimidating security staff' ? Did you parachute in? Or was the 'land owner' demanding 'favours?'
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro
Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
There was one security guy at the beginning of Grange road who did absolutely nothing. He was chatting away on his phone when we went past him. There were fences up, but still easy to get into the field.
I'm pretty sure the landowner was sitting in his Range Rover on the mound watching with everyone else

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
was in the field both days, the "security" didnt mind when our driver dropped us off at the closed gates. A view and experience that simply cant be rivalled. DX should team up with the farmer and charge all who enter, im sure most if not all would be happy to pay.

I was just going to type something very similar! The same Duxford which, prior to this show and several others preceding, issued strict cautions concerning southside field occupancy, I take it? Can't see it happening...

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
The fields around Duxford are owned by Cambridge Universities and London based Financial Institutions, the farmers are just tenants. The Fences and Warnings are posted so that if any one in the fields got 'hurt' during a display then they and their families can't turn round and sue for damages as Fences and Warnings were posted and were ignored by those that got 'hurt'.

Im not saying it would or could happen, but it would be beneficial.

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
It couldn't happen. Not in a million years.
As soon as you charge, you're required to provide things like toilets, medical facilities (St Johns Ambulance), and most importantly, insurance. Imagine trying to get insurance for an area directly underneath the display line!

Re: Anyone visit the naughty field today?
Cap 403 quite clearly states warnings should be posted and access restricted where possible BUT also Police and authorities have no power to remove you if the land owner doesnt object.
So basically they cant do nada or stop you enjoying the naughty field, but they do have a duty of care to place warnings.
Unless of course they get the road closed and any public footpaths like Yeovilton do. However Yeovilton approach end to 27 is a very dangerous place.
