RNAS Merryfield Open Evening Wed 10th June 2015

Post by MikeyB »

Good Evening all,

Following the release of some of the dates for the RN Black Cats, I noticed that they are appearing at the Merryfield Open Evening on the 10th June.

I've never attended this event before and would love to go. Does anyone on here have any extra info on this or can recommend for or against?

Cheers,
Mike.

To me it looks like a fun evening actually! Not far from me - do you need to get tickets or is it turn up on the day?

I'm definitely sold on this one, especially as considering that I cannot make Yeovilton this year for the first time in about 11 years!

Thank you very much for the information and here's hoping for good weather!

Cheers,
Mike

I've been for 4 years in a row now, its a brilliant evening and the end is the best when the aircraft depart, you're close to them and the sun sets behind them. Whats not to like?

Ah so the usual then. Hopefully Westlands bring along some nice aircraft, I believe last year it was mentioned the HH-101A was going to come but alas that did not materialize. Imagine a HH-101a, Korean Wildcat or an Algerian lynx turning up! Any of these would be most certainly welcome, but I doubt it will happen.

I guess we'll see on the day. One of those would be very tasty indeed.

Great evening! Three AW aircraft and a Jungly - lovely. Great air displays too, though you've gotta laugh at the RN Merlin simulating an emergency then going tech while doing so! There's something to be said for the fact that the RN's newest plane's crew had to get a lift back home on the type it's replacing.

Chris Gotke knows how to fly a Chippie, that's for sure.

Thought there might be a RNHF pilot display of some sort; the Chipmunk and Harvard seem to be bearing the brunt of Naval aviation at many airshows currently!

Such a shame we're losing the Sea King for good - I've not forgotten the Merlin's serviceability issues at RIAT last year!

Had a very enjoyable evening at RNAS Merryfield last week! My first ever visit and I have to say that there was more there than I had expected. Perfect weather and some enjoyable flying. It's just a shame that they don't do a full size show there as the setting would be almost perfect!

Hope to return again in 2016. Thank you to the organisers for putting on a great event!
