Kennet Seafire back in the air at North Weald

Post by TJJ »

On Tuesday the Kennet Aviation Seafire XVII did three air tests flown by John Beattie. Great to see this lovely aircraft back in the air.

Don't know if JB was a bit quick on that first approach but that tail looks waaay high and the prop awfully close to the hard stuff.
That being said I'm sure he knew what he was doing....it's only jealousy on my part!

Seems like only yesterday it made the wheels-up landing in France. As if that was 4 years ago!

Great to see.

If anyone's interested, the Seafire is currently sat on the grass at Shuttleworth.

Super shots Trevor - nice to see it back in the air.

...and now tucked up inside one of the hangars.

Any idea how long it's in for?

Seen a comment on OW's facebook that says "she's staying", and I note that Kennet's T-6 and a Westland Scout also arrived today? Are they moving the fleet - IIRC the owner of Kennet lives at OW?

The T-6 was out on the grass when I left with a cover over the cockpit. The Scout took the pilot and co back earlier apparently. The Seafire was in the workshop hangar near the main entrance. I asked one of the guys there how long it was staying and he said until next week. It's not on the list for the show on Sunday, but fingers crossed :-)

A few more from Sunday when John Beattie flew the Seafire back from Old Warden, Chris Götke then took it out for a local flight and a couple of circuits. As we were clearing up after a drag racing event, we were using a displaced threshold on Runway 20.
