Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2015 **UPDATED**

Post by richyrara »

Ok so it's not an airshow that most would think as an 'airshow', but an airshow nonetheless. There's even going to be a few aircraft at this year's festival although no jets this year unfortunately.

The Balloon Fesitval proper doesn't start until next Thursday, but this morning was the press launch at Bristol harbourside, and the weather was splendid...

Brilliant compositions. Nice to see something a bit different!

Love these :-). Must pop down to my local 'airshow' next weekend! Shame there's no Typhoon this year - in previous years two have transited right over my house en route to Lulsgate for the weekend to display at the balloon fiesta (or at least they did a few years back).

Number one is my favourite. The docks are a brilliant venue for the press launch aren't they? I'm guessing these were taken from the swing bridge or just off it by the Arnolfini?

Thanks for sharing.

Stunning pictures! Loving the reflections in the beautiful blue water of the floating harbour (it's not always like that).
I park in the Millenium Square car park all the time, and it's hard to believe that so many balloons can fit into that area.
Truly impressive.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It certainly was a rare fine morning, the weather really does make such a difference. Hopefully we'll have some more of the same next weekend.

It is indeed a shame that neither the Reds or Typhoon are displaying this year although there are the wingwalkers (Sat) and BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane (Sat and Sun; twice on Sunday according to the BIBF website). Also a C47 display as well although I can't for the life of me find out which one. Communication doesn't seem to be the organisers strong point I've learned over the years!

I'll update the thread if I manage anything for the fiesta itself

Yep, just on the corner by the Arnolfini.

Stunning images - real iconic "Bristol" photographs IMO.

Makes me regret not finding out about/going to see them!

OK... managed a few over the weekend. It was the first time that all seven ascents were able to take place, although some were in pretty dire weather. I did think twice about adding to the post after seeing the superb Lorraine Mondial set, which does indeed make the Bristol event look like a chimpanzees tea party. Never mind...!

Great set Rich, you caught me in the penultimate two, flying the white balloon next to the Minion.

Love the city backdrop shots.

Seventh slot should never have been flown, glad I chose to stay on the ground.

Cheers

Yeah that Sunday evening ascent was awful... had they not been on for a clean sweep I doubt they'd have bothered!
