Chernoe Overhaul Plant

Post by Wissam24 »

I thought I'd put this in here, as, though some are technically modern military (as they belong to the DOSAAF), they're so old and in such bizarre states of existence that they might as well be museum pieces! This was honestly a bit of a heaven from a photography point of view as well as access. We got on the base and were basically told "Yeah, whatever, just don't go inside them." So off we went. It's a plant specifically for overhauling DOSAAF aircraft (i.e. the Mi-2 and An-2) but they do civilian and foreign work as well, and there were also those Mi-8s there which were a treat.

It's their demonstrator model, it shows how they can take a plane literally in tatters and make it look factory fresh. It was a bizarre sight for sure!

Once again great pics - and a fascinating place - MARZ - Moscow Aviation Remont Zavod (Repair Factory).......

Did you see any progress being made on the Mil Mi-1 that they were restoring to flight ?? - it was there in 2008....

The dogs! I totally forgot the dogs! Thanks mate, I think this was probably my favourite event photography-wise. I do remember the guard forbidding me from taking pictures of that most secret of Russian aviation technology, the An-2 engines.

Sadly we didn't go in the hangars as we were very late, it's amazing they still let us in! Would've been nice to see the Mi-1 (were it still there), as well as the work they were doing, but as I said, we were so overdue we had no right to complain about the access they gave us.

Regards to you both gents. All those I took of those two pups came out blurred as they were moving too fast, just the guard dog here. And who is that steaming forwards across my shot?!!!
