Air to Air with 848 Naval Air Squadron.

Post by gallers74 »

The Sea King helicopter comes to the end of its service life with the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) on 31 March 2016 having been taken into service with CHF in 1997.

I had the opportunity to fly with 848 Naval Air Squadron for one last jaunt out of RNAS Yeovilton.

Lovely (and poignant) shots, Simon. You've covered it well. It'll be a mighty sad day when the Ol' HC.4s shut down for the last time.

I like the shots of the Sea King in the air with the sun behind the aircraft.

I was also lucky enough to attend the event, however the position of the aircraft on my sortie did not allow such dramatic shots.

The end of March will be a sad day when 848 stands down their remaining HC4s.

What are the plans for the aircraft after retirement.

Understood the King of the Junglies (with RPG damaged panels that were removed following an incident in Afghanistan) will be going to the FAA Museum.

The others appear up for disposal.

Likewise but you've certainly made good use of the opportunity - the opening shot's a real peach.
