Hi Fokion,
Are there spotters days (arrivals ' departures etc) planned for this show?
If so how do I apply?
Cheers

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Its too early at the moment to answer yes or no.
And the "problem" is that Tatoi where the show is taking place, is not "qualified" for servicing jet planes - danger of f.o.d. and very limited technical infrastructure ( no jet fuel available f.e.) , so the planes ( at least the military ones) operate from an other military base near by, that is very "military" active, so taking pictures there is forbidden for public.
Tatoi on the other hand is more "flexible" since it is not an "active" military base in the full sense, it hosts many aero clubs, it hosts car racing e.t.c.
But, I will bring the matter to the next O.C. meeting and come back when there is something solid.
Hope I answered your question.
Have a nice day!!!

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Turn the local military base into a spotters Day and there will be alot more interest
Always remember "If you cannot turn tight...you cannot fight!"
Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
The thing is that all jet planes ( MIG 29s -we hope once more - F16s and whatever else ) will operate from the Tanagra (mainly) airfield were photographs are no-no...
But we will see depending were each team would be allocated..... too early at present time...
I really do appreciate your interest in our "young" air-show... I really do....
I will try to feed you with as much info as I can and as it becomes solid...
There will also be Fly -inn at Tatoi Airfield, if you are interested ....
Handling fees for listed fly-inns of AFW was free of charge in all Greek airports inbound and outbound for the show week, as Swissport was our sponsor the past years and we hope they will be also this year
Officially the announcement - invitation will come from AOPA Greece in due time, but consider it as an "early heads up"!!!

Fokion
Thanks for the reply.
I fully understand the issues.
For me to set aside a Weeks holiday to come to Greece it needs to be on a bigger scale.
Tanagra 2005 was great!

The pleasure is all mine!!
As for holidays, there are "packages" available to our spectators and fly-ins before an after the main event formed with our touristic sponsors.
Something like the below.( indicative since there are the ones from last year...

Hallo friends.... The pleasant surprises have already started.
As promised will feed you info as they became solid.
So first good news.
HAF in trust of our good efforts......... Upgraded us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to TANAGRA A/F base, a.... full functioning military base the
"nest" of the Mirage 2000
And the official announcement
"
#AthensFlyingWeek GROWS BIGGER and takes off heading to TANAGRA!!! This year your favorite Air Show will be held in Tanagra Air Base, September 17-18, enabling everyone to experience the adrenaline of air shows to the limits!!! Watch your favorite jets TAKING OFF and LANDING, capture your pictures next to the aircraft of the STATIC DISPLAY, meet the flight crews and live with us the biggest air show in southeast Europe!!! Stay tuned, more information to come soon"
As you can understand the options are even greater, but also the effort having to re-design almost everything having only a few month's time...
Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Since it's at Tanagra, presumably they've relaxed the rules about photography then?! Or is a spotters day as unlikely as you mentioned before?

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
All is back to "zero" and open for discussion....
Keep your fingers crossed, the subject is in high place in my list
What I can also confirm is that there will be some interesting exhibits at the static display f.e.

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
The second ( so far ) pleasant surprise is the participation of
#PatrullaÁguila Team 30 years after their first flight and 10 years after their last appearance in Greece confirmed their participation in #AthensFlyingWeek 2016. Get ready for a unique aerobatic experience, a perfectly coordinated demonstration by well-trained Spanish pilots of seven (7) Casa C-101 Aviojet!!!
