Vulcan XH558 Air to Air - October 2015

Post by Ben Montgomery »

Back in October last year I had the chance to join the Aviation PhotoCrew for one of the last air to air sorties with XH558. We flew out of Duxford, met the Vulcan after it's final airshow display at Shuttleworth and then dragged in back past Newmarket and Cambridge.

Less talking, more pictures for this one I think - they're larger on the Flickr page if you want to see that.

I'm not going to forget this for a long time!

Lovely crisp, clear images.
Strange perspective on No5; she looks a little bendy longitudinally

Wowzers trousers :win: :worship:

I thought the same about number 5, it's like she's turning to smile for the camera.

Number 10 might be my favourite 558 shot ever. Wonderful stuff

Absolutely wonderful set.

They are all stunning, but #9 is almost freakishly perfect, like it's a very high-resolution painting or something.

Magical stuff.

Pure class Ben! Your one lucky person to get such stunning shots. I like them all but shot 7 with the gear down is something different, normally I'm not a fan of B/W for jets but yours work perfectly.

Thank you all, quite taken aback by the response to these! Too many comments to reply to all, but to respond to a few questions:

kph100 wrote:Wow, amazing shots.

Hadn't really thought of selling any, but mainly because I don't have a commercial brain at all! Always happy to entertain offers though if you are interested

aknott68 wrote:I couldn't agree more that these are excellent images of a sadly missed friend - out of interest, what focal length was being used for these photos?

I was using a Canon 5D3 with 24-105 and Canon 7D with 70-200 - if you click each image and go to the flickr page, the settings are there for every photo. Hope this helps!

Yeah, a very odd angle that really shows the fuselage curves. That was in the turn over Newmarket as we were lining up to run in on Runway 23 at Cambridge.

Thanks again!

Ben
